What year/model Rancher do you have? I have an '07 Rancher 420 4x4 ES and I'm looking at throwing some accessories on it, mainly some bigger tires, and I'm wondering what kind of set-up people are using.

I have a 06 350, the last of the 350. The 420 took the place of the 350 & 400 rancher. Mine is 2 wheel. I have added a HMF muffler and the engine has been bored and fitted with H/P piston and rings and new valves, I have replaced the stock tires with 25 in instead of the 24, still stock wheels. Talk to Mr. Torque, he can give you better Ideas. I do know that the next set of tires will be 26 witha 2 in lift since I love to play in the mud. Also Mr. Torque did all the work on mine and has two ranchers of his own.

you gonna be at the ride this Sunday at Atena?

Just curious as to why you went with a 2 wheel drive? It seems with the mods you've added and are planning on that it would far better suit a 4 wheel drive than a 2 wheel drive. :)

Good question! The # 1 reason was the price for two, paid 7200.00 for both out the door. Then after riding it for awhile and learning how to shift weight to go over different types of terrain, I really like it. Being able to throw it into a curve and go drifting, just a blast to ride. I do like the 4 weel drive at times too, but I have more fun on the two wheel, like for jumps, and doin wheelies, and other stupid shit I'm not supposed to do. :). At the time the weight difference between the 2 & 4 wheel drive was 60lbs. The 350 2 wheel was 498lbs, where the 350 4 wheel weighed in 554 lbs. As for the mods, that was one of those unexected add-ons. I planned on the exhaust, but the bore was a have to, since I buried it in the mud and all the crap ran into the engine. Mr. Torque does all my work.Top Notch work.

I believe they're still going to make the Automatic 400. I could be mistaken. Do you know what year model Mr. Torque owns? There still aren't a lot of accessories out there for the 420, so I'm limited on exhaust ideas. It took me weeks to find quality skid plates alone that actually fit. The main thing I'm looking to do now is to throw some bigger tires on it, but I'm trying to see what I can put on there and not lose power without putting in a clutch kit. Most of the people I've read on forums say they have 26's on there and have noticed no power loss, but I've read some that have put on 27's and still maintained performance. I'm getting real tired of all my buddies on their foreman's and assorted Yamaha's slinging mud all over me and I can't fight back with these factory cleats.

Emcars, I have an 05 and an 06. As far as mods goes for the rancher 420, there should be a power commander available for it by now. I'm also pretty sure that the 04-06 pipes will fit an 07 up with very little negotiation. Dont quote me on that, ill check into that for you. Anything other than those two options as far as bolting on things is about it. Unless you wanna get that power commander and take off the airbox lid, then you have to watch the deepest of mud.

An another note, the kind of riding that Vern does on his really constitutes a 2 wheel drive. The 4 wheel drive do very well in the mud but come trail time (70-80% of his ride time) the 2wd is much more desirable. They are faster, turn better, and just flat out handle better. You would have to ride with me and Vern sometime to really get the picture on how we ride most of the time.

One other thing, I just got the new dirtwheels in the mail (subscribers get it earlier) and they have a shootout between the 420 rancher and a suzuki 450. Its almost as if it kills those editors to even think of saying something nice about a Honda. In this shootout, it out did the Zuki in the power department so if they said it, it must have really blown that fuckers doors off. Ive rode those 420's and they are just about fast enough as they are.

Speaking of said comment above, when we gonna hook up and sling sum mud? Also, you should see some of the mud holes I have been able to get out of since the bore. You also need to ride the rancher. Have you checked out the vids I posted?

I've found a few different power commanders out there but I wasn't going to get that unless I got a new exhaust and my choices on exhaust are so limited at this point that I'd do better waiting another 6 months to see what comes out. I've heard some people say that the older rancher's bolt-on exhausts work, I've also read where some people have had to cut the existing pipe and weld on the exhaust. You're right, that thing is plenty fast. I ain't looking to win any races. I enjoy trail riding and getting in the mud and I just want it to be powerful enough to turn whatever tires I put on it. Any ideas what size it'll turn as is? We're going back to Windrock this March and I want to have some bigger/more aggressive tires for my return trip.
Almost every magazine/online article I've read where they put the 420 up against other mid-sized 4 wheelers (450 and down) it has won hands-down. The magazines do love to kiss Suzuki's ass. I seen one article where they were like "Yes...the Honda Rancher is better performance-wise, but the Eiger has a much more cush seat...and for that we will have to call this a tie." I exaggerate, but it was along those lines. I couldn't be happier with it. Before I bought it I rolled a Foreman 500 and almost died. After a week in the hospital I decided I wanted to go with a midsize and since I'm a small guy it's a much better fit. Any help/advice you could give would be greatly appreciated. Where all do you guys go riding?

Nah, sadly they are getting rid of the 400AT Rancher so 2007 will be its last year. Its really about goofy in my opinion because now if you want an Automatic Honda you've got to hop into either a Rubicon or Rincon...

The Foreman "Rubicon" is one bad machine, best work horse Honda makes and its the only ATV that has a Low setting from Honda...
