Ive got an '88 Silverado. TBI 305, 700R4 tranny and no clue about gearing. What is cheap to do to get more ponies outta my motor? And will my tranny hold up to more ponies?

Car craft magazine did a mild build up with almost the same vehicle and engine a few years ago. They threw some bolt on at it and the lower end torque really improved as did the HP.
I would suggest looking there first b/c they did baseline and after dyno pulls.
If memory serves me correct they changed out intake, exhaust (can't remember if headers or not), put a new OBDI chip in it, and perhaps pullies. It was mild, but it did improve.
If you're not doing internal mods, that trans should be fine.

cheapest would be polyurethane bushings for the sway bars, followed by a spring/shock combo. Tires of course.
I got less than $400 in suspension and my truck rides great. A fullsize truck won't handle like 'it's on rails', but a mild drop, good tires, and what's mentioned above will be a major improvement over stock.
If you got $1000-1500 to play with, I would get a K&N, the velocity stack intake (I think that's what it's called - they make it for TBIs), a chip, and some suspension work. I think a company called turbo city knows their stuff on TBI stuff....
I know some TBI guys run a modified TB for additional flow, as well as a spacer to raise the injectors for additional room for the a/f mixture.
I'm sure there is tons of info on other sites....

best performance mod you could do is take that throttle body off and use a good carb setup.

Its got a new longblock with Vortec head. just got the TBI intake though. I can't find headers that'll fit either. The engine is offset too much for anything I've found so far. Prolly somethin out there but I've not found it.

Summit brand truck headers, $89.95.
Actually, you can turbocharge the shitty TBI pretty easilly, and make a lot more power than you ever would with NA bolt-ons and heads.
Hell, you could even do a blow-thru carb setup if you want. There's lots of room for turbo plumbing in there...

If your running vortecs and stock TB you would damn sure notice a difference with the carb setup.Like illintent said too,If turbos an option you want to do it would def. be the best bolt-on mod you can do..
