Mine's an 01 7.3 4x4 crew cab shortbed and I had been averaging 15mpg with basic mods and a 100hp tune from DP-tuner.

I talked to Jody about a different tune and he said his 80hp-Economy tune might gain me 2-4 mpg over my 100hp tune. I'm not gonna get my hopes up but heck 1 mpg would be worth it with diesel prices like they are.

Anyway, just curious what some of the rest of you are seeing. Also please state what engine, 4x4 or not, etc. and what mods you've got.

thanks

Mark

My dad has a 96 f250 4x4 extended cab long bed auto, hes getting 17mpg on average with a Superchips Tow-tune and a K&N drop in filter.

However, my friend with a 99 f250 4x4 shortbed is getting about 9mpg.K&N drop in, 4" exhaust, edge evoltion on stage 3 and a boost controller pushing 5psi more than the chip allows. Its a 6spd and he drives it like hell though.

On another note if you ever need any work done let me know my dad and I work on ALOT of them.Unless its a 6.0 i hate those pieces of shit.

My friend switched from a Tahoe to his 02 7.3 powerstroke and actually gets a little worse mileage with the diesel, right around 15 opposed to near 17mpg with the tahoe.

Well you have a 7.3L diesel engine in an 8 thousand pound truck with a 4:10 gear built for hauling heavy shit. Then you have a 5.7L gas engine in a 5 thousand pound SUV with a higher gear built for hauling your kids around. Its going to get worse fuel mileage. But if you have two similarly sized engines(diesel/gas) The diesel engine will get better MPG.Such as a 2.0 VW Jetta diesel and a 2.0 Mazda 3 for instance. The new VW gets about 49mpg mixed driving whereas the mazda would probabally get around 27 max. diesel engines are more thermal and energy efficient which in turn burns less fuel to do the same amount of work. But all the fucking tree huggers think they all black smoke and its ugly and shit. Also all the new Emissions equipment that they are requiring on diesels is drastically dropping their gas mileage. ULSD has done the same thing just like 10%blended ethanol in gas, their is less energy potential.
