No vent for the psi to get out in a highpower ignition.. Drill a few 1/4 holes in between the posts on the cap and the problem will be solved..
Or I am pretty sure you can by them vented already if you dont want to drill the cap yourself. I drill mine between every post.

i guess if you had to work on papas pick up all the time ,but what ever... iv not seen one that did that shit ever. and iv never had a stock dist with a high out put ignition.... i guess you have to have a prob before you can know how to fix the son of a bitch...... i had a ford truck once that would get moisture in the cap and would not start or would stop running in the rain .... you had to take the cap of and take alighter to it and dry it out... but thats about it....

Papa's pick up... Thats funny, you have alot to learn.
It doesnt matter if its a stock dist or not, its simple law of physics, the AIR inside the cap and electricity generate heat, and do you know what HOT AIR does inside a non vented area? It EXPANDS, much like your head has over the past few months on here.
Just because you do not know the answer to something doesnt mean your less of a person, or that the person who has been there and done that is any more of one..
Now I dont know about PAPA'S pick up, I WORK on race cars and have for about 20 yrs.

The ford cap is much larger than a chevy cap, thats why MSD started using the FORD style cap on alot of the higher end dist stuff.. I am betting that KENNY has a POINTS style cap which places the POLES on the cap closer together.

And FYI Im not one of those RICH guys who just drives his car,,, I BUILD MINE.. But I have tuned Papa's pick up once or twice.

i had a prob 1 time with a 302 that would for no aparent reason just back fire out the tail pipes like a fuckin 12 guage shot gun.forno reason . then it would run good then it would just boom ,do that shit again.. i swear, i started thinking it was something with the earths magnatism or some shit.. man it drove me up the wall... then 1 day i was driving around the house and it was on a left hand slope.it just died. on aright hand slope it was fine .on a left hand slope it would shut of. to my surprise and glad for finding it. it was the ignition coil. the liquid inside was groundind itself out and the spark was going to ground and not to the distributor. not firing the cylinders for a few cycles would pupm the exh.pipes full of raw fuel and air and when it did fire the next time when the exh.valve opened it ignited the charge in the pipes
damn what an explosion. i dont know how the flowmasters took that shit...

I dont claim to know it all, these forums are a great tool for sharing experiences. I have had lots of crazy shit happen over the years, I had a MSD dist do that very same thing with me setting the timing a few years back on SANDY FREEMANS car in the pits and it was dark I never seen the cap did not have the holes in it, IT BLEW UP in our face while I was reving the engine in the pits. I sent him to auto zone to get a new cap and he told me when he got back as I was drilling the holes that he had that same thing happen 3 times that season. I thought he had left the rotor loose, but found out he had never drilled the cap. Well 2 years later and he runs the same cap and has NEVER blown up another.
Watch and see if Railroad has this problem again after he drills the cap...

ya its just a stock 502 block the cam is a 547/547 114 seperation roller, roller rockers, weiand 177 blower ,making 10lb boost, 750 douple pumper all msd ignition stock 502 cast iron heads with a 4.88 gear. it was running a 7.40s @ 95mph all day long, but for some reason shes running a 7 80 @ 92mph.. i gota few bugs to get out.. so a 502 is a stock big block what times are you running

abomb, I never did catch what you race? I know its easy to sit on the sideline and say its easy, and I agree that it should be faster than what it is, and I see a few things that would help it, but Kenny is learning and working hard on it. He and I have had our problems on the net before but at least he is out racing and trying to get faster. For a big ole truck not many are going faster if any than he is curently. So give him a break you never know when you may be the guy trying to go faster and need help from the very person your dogging. And hell maybe he is happy like it is again at least he is racing it. So which one do you drive?

As for building a bowtie, I have a blown 509 bowtie only 7 cubic inches more than Kenny that runs pretty good..

For your info i didnt do the body work on my car and last time it was at the track it went 810 on street tires, and as far as cubic inch makin a diffrence for weight it might in some cases but he has a factory gm 502 crate motor with the factory steel heads only changed cam and the small 177 blower in a 4100+lb full size truck, you could put that same set up in something that weighed less and it would be in the 6s and you sayin for him he should have bought a lightning from the factory they run good but not that impressive for the price of them he has less than half of what a lightning would cost and can drive it to the track, and since you such a know it all racer hidin behind a name what do you race(if anything)and how fast is it here in crossville

nah... Glidden is 2400 lbs or less with him in it, yes its a small block ford but its no normal small block the R&D thats in that thing is unreal, and believe me I LIKE the hell out of both of them. Glidden is a true racer, he is a engine builder, and fabricator, a cylider head guru, and a hell of a nos tuner, but I dont think its as impressive as Lynch's car. Lynch is almost 1000 lbs heavier and over a tenth quicker in the 1/8 and 3-4 tenths and 20 mph in the 1/4..

Granted lynch is 600 plus inches and twins.
