new...?'s

So im new to racing. Know a bit about fixing cars but not performance or racing cars. Been to Island Dragway a couple of times with some friends that ride 08' mustang gt's. I have a pos honda right now, but it was free.

Really want to buy a jetta. heard 95' was good but i have no idea.
I have the money. just need to know what is the best year/make of Jetta for upgrading and adding racing parts to it. If jetta's arent good then i heard a little talk about the Golf's.

i dont like muscle cars, rice burner/tuners and sport bikes < my fav.

just trying to get an idea of where to start.

if you really want a jetta the 98 or 99 and later have more widely available for upgrades and such... I know the VR6 might sound nice since it is a v6 but the 1.8Ls have more from them and also come with a turbo option! good luck
