Hell I wish I knew how to get clams to swim right up in to my boat but till I can figure that one out theyll still need to get dug up out of the mud when the tides out. if you live someplace like jersey they probably might smell pretty ripe but we got cold surf water here and they dont smell like much till you cook em but never do they smell terrible hell they get about 17 bucks for steamers at surf 6 so they cant smell that bad or else they woudnt be sellin them like they do folks on vacation down there cant get enough. if you got a clam that smells terrible id sooner just use it for bait.
