The point of my post was to point out the ignorance of putting a Chevy motor in a Ford. For limited power levels, stock for stock, a GenIII Chevy motor would make more power for less money.

crowder.....we friends here, and you know im a ford guy and always have been, but its all about personal preference, if it were me I would elect to go with a big inch windsor 400" plus and put a 76mm on it, I know you were told that when you start making around 700hp that the block wouldnt stay together...well thats bullshit I have seen it done numerous times. you can make well over 1000hp on a stock windsor block if its a turbo set-up, a nitrous car or blower car on the other hand you might not be able to make 850 without killing the block simply because a blower and nitrous are much harder on shit than a turbo is. I'm gonna help you out anyway I can whatever you decide to do like I said it doesnt matter to me.

I cant afford a C5 z06 that would be in good enough condition for me to want to own.

so let me get this right. you attemp to say that a full bolt on mustang with a 150shot, with a full suspension set-up, and gears "shit for mods as you say", and make it into a excuse as to why your slower. and then say that the supra's are drag out compared to your car because there faster? and as far as the surgery comment go's, there are alot of mods that go on cars that requirer cutting, bending, ect because there not just bolt-on's like they say.

as far as the 2k on fuel which im sure was toward's me. i have no complaints about it. i didnt build my car to run 12',11's, as most would think on here :). i like drag racing, street racing and doing highway pull's with bikes. when you do highway pulls you need alot of fuel and have to run richer so you dont blow up. so yes im happy with my 2k worth of fuel. its served me well.

There are people running what i run on nitrous with an N/A stock block, just a good suspension. So if Tony had spent what he spent on turning suspension on a drag suspension, and was running 7.9's motor he would easily be in the 6s on juice.

only thing ive ever said is that you can run fast times on a stock 6spd. a stock auto, your going to build on put a th400/350 in.

Honestly two power adders, even water/meth injection is pretty much a big no-no when you are really racing a car. So you will never be able to justify it to most drag racers, hell if I put a 75-100 shot on mine I could run with most true 10.5 cars around..

But in the end if you are timeslip racing who cares really..

Dont know about that, but fighting over how many power adders is kinda silly, if they arent allowed in a class you are running then thats that.

Otherwise who cares, just like weight and auto vs manual etc.

But same with a 'built' engine though, some people are lucky to get decent rods/piston with their new car, others arent. In the grand scheme of things a 2000.00 set of rods and pistons to ensure reliability is very small investment. Some supra owners wouldnt sneeze at dropping 30K in BPU+++/5*28/2 upgrades to run 11s yet scoff at swapping rods and pistons on a V8 and adding a turbo.

Sure there are low buck supras that run well, and sure there are low buck mullet cars that run well also. But in the end both will end up costing the same and requiring the same amount of effort to run fast and consistent. There are very few cars throughout the country that run in the 7s from either camp, and most of those have very little to do with the original car and drivetrain.

While still driveable, the trans is pretty well fubar'd and it's slower now that the full exhaust is back on the car. I imagine it could go 7.5's if all the planets lined up and I got another hero pass as the car sits.

I hope to have the trans fixed before the road course event in Nashville in September. One of the turns there really needs 2nd gear and it just refuses to into that gear with a precise rev-match.

Well, I can certainly tell you the car feels slower, now. I mean, it's faster than it was with the stock iron manifolds obviously, but after driving the car for about a week and half or two weeks a few times with headers ONLY.....it certainly zapped some top end back out of it.

You keep comparing STOCK LONGBLOCK's as if they were similar to build specs, and they are not. Here for a real comparison of a Ford with a built LONGBLOCK from the factory:

1st - Stock 03 cobra (block, heads, cams, etc...) 1 power adder (Whipple) 5.86 @ 119.97 1/8th mile.

2nd - same as above, except 1 power adder is 88mm turbo, otherwise completely stock longblock, 9.1 @ 151 1/4 mile.

Both are manuals.

At least this way you are comparing similarly equipped forged built for boost blocks from the factory....


By the way, good luck with your build. I am not writing to argue, but figured if you were comparing, why not give you some cars to compare with...

I dont really see how building a motor with pistons/rods is considered such a "big" performance upgrade on a car. I did mine not out of necessity, but because I just plain fucking wanted to for my own piece of mind. A car running xx time on a "stock block" means jack to me. Like was stated by 99 Cobra.....why compare the holy grail of import performance motors, built to take GOBS of boost from the factory, up against a run of the mill, (and for all intents and purposes) pretty lack luster motor in a normal GT Stang. Start comparing those same ones to the Cobras, and things even out in a hurry. Cobras/Supras basically came with BUILT engines from the factory. A GT building the shortblock just even it out in my mind, and is extremely cheap and easy to do. And about the caster, camber and toe effecting drag racing......maybe to my buddies at JEGS, they worry about that stuff. it means basically dick to the normal, street driven car going down the track.

As I stated earlier, I am not here to argue. I also did not say that you cared about power adders, but apparently it was a hot topic earlier, so I included it in the facts part of my post...that is all, and it was mostly for tdogg. Sorry if it came off as anything other than that, a simple fact for the post.

As for the rest, I plan on adding additional power adders, for the same purposes, to make boost quicker. Although this will be somewhere down the line, but it will happen. And at the end of all of that, I will still be slow, and I will still own a mullet mobile. But most of all, i will still be happy with what I have...:nod:

Anyone that is into cars in general can respect what the stock supra internals are capable of, unfortunately the nutswingers and cheerleaders kind of make it easy to dislike them. But no different for any other car, plenty of Honda, GM and Ford nutswingers as well. All I know is if people spent less time worrying about what other people are doing and would spend that time learning and working on their own car there would be an awful lot of fast cars around here :)

I had one "glory" pass of a 5.98, but could not duplicate it (it had more to do with my driving skills than the car.....its pretty squirrely even that far down the track). Ill be changing the tune when I get back in town, dial the shot back a little, and see where I am at then. The bigger shot definitely did its job, it just makes it even harder to get down the track cleanly.

Thanks dude. I think I definitely hold the car back somewhat......but I couldnt stand to see someone else run it and beat my times. I actually got offered a VERY good deal to sell it a few weeks ago.....but I could not bring myself to do it. I was all set to come down to that Toys for Tots drag thing in Knoxville a while ago, but it got cancelled or moved at the last minute. It definitely isnt comfortable enough to drive the 5 hours to Knoxville in, and with diesel at its current cost.....it will be a while before I eat the ~1k in gas it would take to drive the big truck and trailer it down. There is a guy in Columbus named Gary Walker. He ran a 5.6-something in his 04 turboed Cobra at National Trails a few weeks ago. He is starting to get into competitions and such.....I just enjoy doing it for fun.

How many times do you see people working on the C/C/T in the pits? Seriously...there isn't much to setup for drag racing. Max caster, appx. -.1 camber, and if not 0 toe, maybe an 1/8th of toe in. You're not gonna gain or lose much in that area.

my point being is there is more to a drag set-up then what you are saying there is. springs, shocks, height, ect. depending on the track conditions they get set-up differently.

Yea, my car 60's in the 1.5's.......I set it up PERFECT for drag racing with a 1200lb front spring and a 550 rear spring!!! :rofl:

And my all important alignment was -2.8 camber, +6.1 caster and 0 toe. ;)
