HAHAHA yea those I beams actually held up and didn't break. They have a nice curve to them though, That's actually to make more torque..its a new design ;)...HAHAHAHA I would have to say I did a good job blowing my motor up...damn DSS and there shitty cranks. Oh well since im broke Scott is just redoing a 302 for me to drop back in..damn stock motor..hahahahaha And thanks for the pics bro!

Didn't it have a blower on it?

yea it was a 331, forged internals, Vortech with a small pulley on it ;) which equals BOOM It was all DSS rotating assembly so that was the big problem..What can yea do..it was fun while it lasted...hahaha

That motor wasn't together all that long was it (not to rub it in) - damn and here I thought DSS had some good shit.

Yea I probably put maybe 800 miles on that motor at most...Maybe 400 of that with the blower on it. And no never buy anything from DSS. I found that out right after I bought the motor and now look at what happened. lol

Thanks dude, the next motor will just be something I can put around in till im rich..lol you live and learn right..Im so much more knowledgeable now then I was before this engine build. Maybe Thacker will race me now that a 302 is going back into it?

Go back with a 351!

They are DSS Forged I beam rods..I cant believe they didn't break and just bent
Flamed03
11-04-2008, 02:22 PM
Ewwww. That sucks.
Stick a 351 in it! More inches + a stronger factory block for not much more than a 302.

When DSS first started they were fine, seems when they moved to the bigger facility the products got worse. Saw a DSS 347 crank break in the exact same spot.

if i remember correctly. a h beam rod will break before a i bem rod due to the way it is constructed. but a i beam will bend at a lower horsepower level. before the h beam breaks. something to that effect. but either or it still sucks. anybody fill free to correct me if im wrong.

His rods bending wasn't what caused the failure more like a result of the failure...
Breaking the front portion off a cast crankshaft while using a blower is pretty common especially if you add a factory 302 block into the mix...
Take a look at that front journal on the crank... Hmmmm...
Tighten that blower belt till it goes "bing", and you'll see results like this all day long...

DSS is a shitty company to deal with to say the least. This sure aint the only one I've seen toss shit through the block from them!!

I can think of about 5 people who have had DSS motors take a shit on them . And these motors were not abused.....they were all well within the recommended power level , they just didnt hold up. I ran a blower on my 95 for a long time , making a good bit more power than you...stock block , stock crank , stock pistons and rods and I beat the hell out of it on sticky tires (which loads the motor harder that street tires) and I never had the first problem. I kept the blower belt tight as hell too just to prevent belt slippage under boost. That motor never even blew a head gasket

Just do an old's 307 conversion, you know the rocket engine's.

Yup I can think of many people too.. I have a buddy here in Baghdad with me and he bought a dart block 347 from DSS and when his guy got it in and put that motor his car they had a ton of problems, took it out and took it apart and the thing had bolts that weren't locked down and a bunch of other problems. They have gone to shit in a hand basket. They just pump out as many motors as they can and don't care about quality because they will always have new people to buy that don't know how bad they are because they have one hell of an advertising push. Hey when they build motors for a magazine they damn sure triple check that motor before sending it to them...gotta look good in the magazines! But im not complaining, you live and you learn and I am a smarter man for it. I will try to stop anyone I know from buying from them so they don't have to make the same mistake as I did.

Naaa a 302 with 6 pounds of boost will get me down the road just fine :haha:I made 508rw with a h/c/i 302 with an S-trim with a stock pulley and 545 with a 3.15 pulley which made about 10-11 lbs. as I stated in my above post , it never hurt a single part

Naa im going to go easy on the motor that's going in it. Don't need to blow another motor especially with stock internals. She will Put Put around for a while
