I am trying to find some ideas or plans for a garage. I am looking at about a 30wide x 45deep with on large garage door at the front and a regular door for an entry through the side. Also how high does it ahve to be to use a lift? the front part will be the garage/ shop area and then there will be a wall seperating the back room area. looking for any ideas or opinions please......

You have seen mine many times. The main shop is 30x50 with 14.6 center height. I think you only need 11'6 for most lifts but find the lift you want and check the specs to make sure.

Your welcome to ride out here anytime and take a closer look. The addition is 30x40, main shop is 30x50 like stated above, the 3 car on the left side of the house is also 30x50 and the 3 past it are 30x40's.

Go as big as you can, I have a 30x30 and I wish I would have gone bigger, you will run out of room before you know it

you going metal or stick built ? i went stick normal height and had just the trusses over the lift made similar to a vaulted celing. only costed 100 bucks more than all normal trusses and alot cheaper than going 2 ft taller walls

Make a list of everything you would want in your dream garage and then start picking the things you can afford. Design it so that future expansion is easy, I don't really mean expansion like making the garage bigger...more like electrical, water, airlines etc...

Also I would mount flourecent lights on the walls near the work area so that you have light from all angles. Seal it up well so that you can heat it as well.

Short list of things I would want.

Batroom\Washroom Maybe even a shower so you can clean up before you go back into the house.
Refrigirator
Lots of Lighting
Air Lines everywhere
Storage area for large equipment like a engine hoist etc
Internet
Lots of counter top space
Epoxy Floors
220volt
Double doors going into the storage area
Small Clean room for working on motors.

A loft area with a pool table and a bar...lol

I like/use the extra 2 feet for shelves and pegboard. :nice:

I will soon. Already have a spot picked out for a 60x100. Building these lil ones just don't make sense anymore.

I don't have epoxy floors or a loft with pool table but got everything else covered including 5 T.V.'s satellite service, DVD and X Box.

Make sure to have at least a 150amp Panel put in with outlets everywhere like he said along with air line outlets every 10-15 feet as well.

PS. My pool table is in the
game room or I would never
get anything done in the shop..

We have a 30x40 brick front to match the house with 12ft ceilings. We have a bathroom in there as well. It is insulated and we have central heat and air in the garage. We bought a lift from We-todd-did but haven't picked it up yet. We-todd-did needs to get it in one location and we will pick it up (legs are one place Hydraulic pump somewhere else). We went with a double door and a single door with a small door on the front. It's pretty cool! It's just plain cement floors but some day we will put an epoxy coating or whatever that stuff is with some grit/sand so it won't be slippery.

Lift requirements are 12feet of ceiling height and 6 inches of reenforced concrete floors.

we got 12ft exactly and also 6-7" of reinforced floors at something like 3,000-4,000psi (not sure if that is the right number but it is definitly made for lift?)

Just out of curiousity how tall is a Rotory Lift?

This is correct on several lifts with room to spare. I have a Ben Pearson and it requires 11'6 to operate but only stands 11'2 to the top of the post.

From what I have found with garage space, you figure out how much space you think you need, then you triple that :) I have never had a garage that was too big. Hell, I've never seen a garage that was too big.

We have more problems with seams on floors or thin concrete more than anything when doing an install.
