long tubes will sacrifice tourqe on low horsepower motors.sometimes. it all depends on combo though. but as you begin to make more power shoties can restrict the motor.:nice:

I've always considered the "low end" torque to be useless anyway. Who starts a race at below 4k rpms? As far as sacrificing them on low HP motors.... I think it depends much more on the primary and collector size than whether they are long or short tubes

You are right, I actually have a car that requires you drive it and shift your own gears.

Different head designs will change this, but I have done several tests on Mod Motors that show near zero gain going from stock exhaust to longtubes.

My motor is nothing great it is a 468 bbc full roller cast heads 11/1 compression. It has shorties on it now with 2.5 inch pipe going to 1 chamber Flowmasters. Was gonna put a set of longtubes with a 3 inch xpipe and the 1 chambers again.

i would go with the long tubes on your motor wont gain alot but you could see a 10 to 14 hp gain.

Shorties are really the the best bang for your buck, for a mustang that is.....

I agree. Factory 'headers" have came a LONG way since the fox bodies.

I'd get long tubes if it were me, that being said my stang put down 603RWHP through shorties on pump gas so they can make power.
