There was a very nice blue S-10 there, but I don't remember his name. Kaotic, I'm sorry for all the problems out there. There are some people upset about the dakotas, but I really don't think they have a fair argument. I'm not sure what's going to happen yet. Congratulations though on some good racing. There was also some VERY cool racing in Street Outlaw. The fireworks show was awesome too. Folks, if you're missing the Friday night drags at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, you're missing some great racing and good times hanging with the awesome people in the racing world. Come on out and play.

What seems to be the problem with the Dakotas? Copperdodge was running the truck advanced class on motor, and he drives his truck to the track. Sounds like to me like they got a few sore losers out there. The green Dakota even has power steering, air conditioning, radio, stock bench seat, etc.... I mean damn, talk about cry babies. If they cant hang, tell them to drop down to the regular truck class. Its only for a trophy anyway. Id like to see the 2 Dakotas run each other in the final!

Tom I drove the Dakota down there friday night won the class and drove home. I got paired up with a older chevy truck that was tubbed out with a 454 on the very first run. I out ran him and won a couple more and then for the final I raced another tubbed out, roll cage truck with a 500ci motor, but yet people are complaining about a little dakota with all the accessories and a 318??? I was told friday night if I come back and want to run on slicks I will have to step up to the Sportsman class which is total bullshit. That class is for all out racecars! I just have a stock little truck with a single power adder.

Chuck, first of all congratulations on the win. Secondly, your truck is not only a street car but its a daily driver truck with A/C, all power accessories, all the factory suspension, etc.... But because you and Alex have won some races all the others are gonna bitch and whine like little babies because they got beat. I dont know how they could tell someone with a daily driver truck they have to step up to Sportsman to run against all out race cars. I guess because you got a good combo that works, its unfair to them even when they have a tubbed truck with a big block and nitrous. That should make you feel pretty good it pisses them off that much. They are nothing more than a bunch of sore losers. Next time I come down there Ill bring a box of tampons for all the bleeding vagina's they have down there!

The guys working at the track that are teching in said the arguement people are making in that the Dakotas are not a full size truck. It seems to me that these guys with tubbed out race trucks could step it up against a small tire basically stock truck. Two of the guys I raced with Big Block motors were only running on motor. If there are going to cry and complain I think they would atleast take advantage of the rules for truck advanced class and put some sort of a power adder on there. Thats will help them be faster and possibly win a few races. I dont see how you can cry and complain and dont even have your truck set up to its full potential??

There are some "cry babies" in that class. Unfortunately, they are VERY upset that they can't compete. A couple of the diesel trucks even make over 800 hp and complain because they can't win. What this basically boils down to is when the rules were made, they decided to treat the dakotas like a full size truck since it came stock with a V-8. I would love to see the 2 dakotas race each other. It would make a great race. We'll see what happens. It's not my decision to make and hopefully we'll have something decided by this Friday. I hope to see you all back out there. It wouldn't be racing without a little drama.

ThrottleJunkie it was good seeing you again the other night. I know yall are just trying to make everyone happy down there. I dont understand why people complain so much...its all in fun...and hell it only cost $20 bucks to get in and your racing for a trophy! I think it would be wrong on yall's part to stick me and copperdodge in the sportsman class, because neither of us are anywhere close to all out race trucks. Like I said though its really all in fun...so who cares. Oh and I wouldnt mind lining the two dakotas up!!

Not to mention half of the trucks or more are trailered to the track whereas you and Copperdodge both drive your trucks there and just change tires and drive them back home, even in this HOT weather. The old man with the Vette that runs Domestic Advanced was winning every week just about. Why havn't they moved him up to sportsman? I don't hear anyone complaining about him. A Dakota is considerably bigger than a Ranger or S-10 and is more comparable to a regular cab short bed fullsize truck. Both came with V-6's or V-8's from the factory. Dakotas even came with 360's in them, not just 318's. I mean what about a Ford Lightning, you can easily get them into the 11's with some bolt on's and a tune with some tires. Would they make them run in Sportsman??? I don't think anyone would argue a stock Lightning would smoke a stock V-8 Dakota, even an R/T Dakota so I dont see how they could make a Dakota have to step up to Sportsman and let a Lightning stay. What if I brought a bone stock V-6 Dakota with a kit and slicks that only ran 14's on spray, would I have to run Sportsman with that? All it boils down to is there are just some sore losers out there and they aren't gonna be happy until they win. Its already in the rules that Dakotas and Full size trucks would run in the same class. Just because 2 of the faster trucks are Dakotas people are crying. If it were the other way around and it was a Lighting that was dominating (Which could easily happen) they would be crying for him to move up as well. I would stick by the rules and tell whoever is complaining to step it up. The rules were stated, and some chose to put together Chevys, some chose Ford, and some chose Dakotas. It just so happens the guys with Dakotas got some bad ass trucks. Nobody is stopping anyone else from putting together what ever they want. I say leave the class the way it is and let someone step up and beat them.:doh3:

Ive only been to AMS once and I had a good time. The guys I went with raced their cars and also had a good time. If I suspected someone of cheating I would call them out on it right then and there. All you have to do is go get a tech official and go look at the car for the infraction you think they are hiding. I got no problem letting someone look at my car. The dude with that really nice blue big block Chevelle apparently suspected Pete (F22) of using nitrous and had the tech officials come take a look to verify he wasn't spraying, and Pete had no problem letting them look for themselves. We also went and looked at his car before they raced. He had a kit also, but it wasn't wired up either. I dont know why people come on here and complain of people cheating but they wont say who it is and won't call them out on it at the track. There's no way the few tech officials can inspect every car there after each round. If there's a car that wins a class each week, its entirely possible he just has a faster car and is still within the rules. All I heard about was that black Vette in D/A and how he won each week. So I loaded up my Scamp with drag radials on it, let them tech my car and measure my tread to verify they were legal and raced. If any one thought I was cheating in any way then I would have no problem letting them look my car over, nor would I be upset for them wanting to have a look. I did see a guy with tires that weren't drag radials but they were some old M/T Indy Profiles (not much better than regular street tires) but he went out first round anyway. I'm just saying if you got a problem with someone's combo then say something. Don't just leave with out saying anything and then come on here and complain and threaten to not go back. Grow a sack and look at their car with an official. Im sure if they are cheating the official can take it from there. Im sure its hard to place every car there in a specific class with so many different cars. I just hate to see someone try to set something up for everyone to have a place to go race at and then people just want to sit back and complain and knock the track. I think its a little rediculous to try and "Show them who's boss" when they are providing the atmosphere they are and giving people a legal place to go and street race legally. You sure dont get any timeslips on the street and many of you claim to be big time street racers. Why not just go and have a good time, and if you suspect someone of cheating then call them out on it. Seems simple enough to me. The night I went down there, I won D/A, Pete won Domestic, and Alex won Truck Advanced. All three cars were legal and were checked and none of us had a problem with it. All Im really saying is Ive seen enough tracks close, the last thing that needs to happen is to go out and try and close another one because you don't like the way something is going. All the officials Ive talked to there were very accommedating and helpful. It just doesn't seem right to me to not say anything to them there and then complain on the internet. I would say at least 95% of the cars there are legal. So why let a few spoil it for the rest. Call them out on it if you think they are cheating. End of story!

The way they are putting people in classes that they shouldent be in i dont want to be one of the guys that everybody wants in a differant class
If you have a mid or full size truck, then you would be in either the regular truck class (real street radials and no power adders) or Truck advanced (any tire you want including slicks, and power adders are legal) One of the Dakotas that won the class Drove there with pump gas in it, swapped tires and raced on the motor and won. He doesn't even have a kit on the truck. The other Dakota that won is a daily driver type with all power accessories including A/C, power steering, power brakes, all factory guages, stock bench seat, etc.... with a kit on it. He also drives it there and just swaps tires and then drives it home. All you have to do is show up and let them look at your ride and they will put you in the correct class to the best of their abilities. Ive only been once and I had a great time as did everyone I went with.

By that rule, if i put slicks on mine i will be in your class. And we both know mine wont run what yours does.
But Joey, your truck is not a mid or full size truck. You could run in Domestic, Domestic Advanced, Sportsman, etc.... You chose to build an S-10 and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. That doesn't mean that someone else's S-10 isn't faster than yours. There can only be one winner in each class. The truck class was set up for mid and full size trucks (trucks that came with V-8's from the factory) A Toyota T100 is considered a full size and is no bigger than a Dakota. And a full size regular cab short bed Chevy isn't much different in size and weight than a Dakota either. I just think that if we know or suspect someone of cheating we need to call them on it. If they aren't then there's still nothing wrong with checking, if they are then they should be kicked out anyway. I dont think there's anything wrong with helping out the tech's to make sure everyone is legal. As a matter of fact, I think they depend on us to help them out on that issue. I think if we know someone is cheating and nothing is said, than we have nobody to blame but ourselves. Its supposed to be about fun and a trophy. I know they will let people grudge race if they want to also. What more can they do except try to be as fair as they can. No matter what they do, someone is not gonna be happy. You have a nice ass truck and nothing to be ashamed of. If you choose not to go there then thats up to you, but I sure wouldn't not go because someone is cheating in your class and you dont want to call them out on it. I sure as hell would. Why let a couple people ruin it for everyone. I may move up a class or 2 if I go back just for the challenge. I may get my ass handed to me but who cares. Ive got nothing to lose. Just be careful if you open your hood, there are spies everywhere out there! lol

There is no point in asking any questions. They will do what they want to. I will be going to the track on Fridays from now on. Its only 10 bucks to run, they have lazers and timeslips and i can circle track that bitch all night and have fun racing at the same time.
First smart man in the group....
Fuck anything to do with a NASCAR track... Doesn't surprise me one bit people are crying about this or that... After all... it's a fucking NASCRAP venue... LOL

If you had been there last friday you would see what i mean. We had techs taking parts of off cars when the owner wasnt around. We had a guy kicked out for "cussing" at an official. Sorry Mr.Freshwater, i have known Allen alot longer, gotta see his side on this one. When there are cars and trucks purging before stage in front of officials in my class, makes you wonder? Yeah, i have alot of potential, when i get the 9in copperdodge will be the first to know:waveby: But for pure fun, i cant get away from the one wheel peel and a hard tire. It just makes it that much harder. Besides, if you go every week, you dont have to be teched. Just tell them your there and get your sticker. there is not a doubt in my mind that there are cars spraying in the domestic class...I go every week and every week I am out after the first round but I still have fun...I could hook the juice up on my car and cheat with some of the others but I dont feel the need...not for a plastic trophy...not worth it to me...I am there to waste some gas and burn some rubber...also the sooner I get knocked out the sooner I get to drink a cold one

I was accused of cheating this past Friday night, when I clearly wasn't. As a matter of fact never even driven the car before that night. I let the official check out the car and it was cleared. Just because a car is faster doesn't mean they are cheating. It just simply means some need to step up their own game and build a faster car. If you want to hold others back to accommodate your short comings then go find a bracket race. It's for fun, Not Money. So let's keep it that way. I will tell you it did suck that I had to jump through hoops and have people talk to me the way they did, when I didn't really even know what I was doing. Then shortly after the same people who accused me of cheating were the one's cheating and spraying right in front of the officials and nothing happened. I just have one suggestion....If you want someone's car to be inspected; you should expect yours to be as well. I think some of the guys want to take the heat off of them and put focus on others and not themselves. AMS is a close, cheap, and fun place to go on a Friday night. Enjoy it or don't go. Period!

Are you saying a tech official took parts off of someones car without their knowledge? I hope that's not the case.
I'm with Tom on this one though. If you see someone cheating, why not say something? If nothing gets done at that point, then make your decision to not come back.

That would actually be a good rule to add. You can protest, but must be inspected as well if you protest another racer.

Ive only been once and I had a great time as did everyone I went with.
well my truck should be easy full weight F-250 with a tune and nitrous on 33s

I know for sure people thought F-22 (Pete) was spraying his little Ranger truck in Domestic and they even came and checked his truck out right there on the track after a pass. He gladly opened the hood and let them inspect what ever they wanted to see. He was not cheating and won the class. Sometimes you just have to give people credit for what they can do with their cars or trucks. Pete bought that Ranger new in 1992 and has owned it ever since. He's been racing that thing for 17 years now and knows how to make it work on hard radials. Ive known him for over 17 years now and I can tell you he sure as hell dont like to lose, but he won't cheat to win either. At least not at the track! LOL

Hey, if you were wronged personally then I understand you not wanting to go back. I will say if I saw someone cheating I would jump on that immediately and have them thrown out and not feel bad about doing it. I dont mind getting beat as long as its a fair race. Ive lost plenty of times, Ive lost to girls, etc.... But I dont mind exposing cheaters. I went there to have a good time and I did. I had no issues with anyone. I really like your truck and think it has the potential to do well down there. Im only saying I would hate to see you not come back because a couple people are cheating. I say get them tossed and be done with them, then let the best man win.:nice:

I have had fun both times I have been out there also! All the guys working the place have been pretty nice and Ive never had any issues, but I can say if what one of the track officials told me right before I made my final pass friday night is true, and that was if I wanted to continue to run on slicks I will be bumped up to the Sportsman class or I could run on a drag radial and run in the Domestic Advanced class then I seriously doubt I will be back! The final round in the truck advanced was a good race. I didnt walk off on the guy or just kill him its was a good close match up. So I dont see where AMS could possibly think it is right to bump me or CopperDodge into the Sportsman class where neither of us are comparable or would be competitive.

Guys, this is alot to respond to. First, let me start by saying that I sleep about 4-5 hours a night. That's 19-20 hours a day that you can call me and comment or discuss anything that is tech related. I may not have all the answers, but if I don't know, I will find out and get back to you. My number is 404-787-3857. I am very approachable and always willing to help out where I can.
Second...tires. There was a slight misprint in the rules. There are a few infact that we have tried to relay to everyone. I won't go over each one now. ET Street tires comes in 2 styles. The radial tire and the "wrinkle" wall tire that is not a radial tire. If you look on the side wall and it says ET Street, it can be confusing. Hoosier also makes a radial tire that looks like a slick. But most importantly, if you see what you think is an infraction of the rules, please come get myself or Eddie and bring it to our attention.
Favoritism.....come on guys. You can't really think this. We are racing for some plastic trophies. This is not a $10,000 purse at stake here. Are you kidding me. I can't believe people are throwing the favoritism thing out there. The by runs are done completely by random on the calculator when you pull back around. If you have already had a by run, you don't get another one. There is no computer system out there to keep track of everything, and we do the best we can. Again, if you see an infraction, bring it to the attention of an official. Notice a pattern emerging here.
Please allow me to direct the person that was kicked out for "cussing" at an official......me. I was asked by my boss to go re-tech that truck due to possible use of nitrous. We didn't just pull that out of thin air. His fellow racers approached an official and said that they thought he was spraying. That's when we stepped in to check. I approached the gentleman and he started yelling and cussing me up and down like I had slapped his daughter. I remained calm, and tried to extend my hand and introduce myself and explain the situation. It wasn't us wanting to re-tech his car. His fellow racers wanted us to re-tech his car for possible spraying. As we state over and over, we can't keep up with what everyone does to every car. We rely on fellow racers to "rat out" possible "cheaters". Again, are you noticing a theme here in letting an official know of a possible infraction.
Folks, let's keep this into perspective. This is Friday night drags with an exciting environment at a safe place to drag race friends and fellow competitors. You are racing for a plastic trophy. There are a couple hundred cars showing up on Friday nights. It would be IMPOSSIBLE to re-tech each and every car every week. We tech for safety reasons and to class each vehicle upon your first visit. After that, you are on your honor to keep your car as it was teched. If you have to add nitrous or change tires to make yourself faster and try to "cheat" your way to that plastic trophy......come on.....are you for real. This is why we rely on the fellow racers to "police" each other and let us know of infractions. Alot of times, we re-tech and find it's just people upset that they are being beat by a class legal vehicle. It goes both ways, but we appreciate each and every one out there. Without you, we wouldn't be there doing what we love and enjoy doing.
Let me close by reminding everyone that I'm approachable and reachable at any time. If you're ever in Hampton during the week, I work at Racing Radios right in front of the Speedway. Stop in and shake my hand and let's talk cars, motorcycles, racing etc. Of course, you can always take me to lunch and chat politics with me....I can talk politics for days. I'm VERY opinionated. Again, my number is 404-787-3857. Call me anytime with questions or concerns. I take drag racing very seriously. A little background me is that I worked at NOPI for 5 years where I helped market the NOPI NATIONALS, I also wrote the original rule book for the NDRA drag racing series. I traveled around the country, handling those drag races for 3 years. I left NOPI and have worked at Racing Radios for the past 6 years where I do communications for many race teams. Rolex Grand-Am, IMSA American LeMans, Indy Car as well as numerous IHRA and ASA teams. I have worked in many aspects of many forms of racing for many years and I thoroughly enjoy it and take it serious. I am not the head technician at AMS, but I'll do anything I can do to help. Remember, there are 14 classes to come out and race just about anything on wheels. It's a great time to be had by all, but let's keep things into perspective. You are racing for a plastic trophy. We will not make everyone happy all the time. But we are trying to make the maximum number of people happy a maximum abount of the time.
p.s. If you know the gentleman that cussed me and was subsequently kicked out...please ask him to come up to me, shake my hand and let's introduce ourselves and start over. I don't want there to be any bad blood. He wasn't mad at me that night, he was mad about the situation of one of his fellow racers thinking he was cheating.

You said it yourself, its a plastic trophy. So why on earth would guys wana buy $60+ worth of race fuel, pay to have bottles filled:pimp:, fill up there tow pigs, and pay to get in, to be treated shitty by some of YOUR officials(i use that term loosely)? As for favorites. Who knows, but it was pointed out to me that win lights have came on well before the end of a race. Call it what you want. Until you have a beam trip system, its always going to happen.
And in closing, i will relay your message to Allen. But the story i go there again from an "official" was whom ever was going to inspect his truck put his hands on him. Did it happen? I dont know, and dont realy care. But if it did, im suprised a fight didnt happen.

I can answer that Joey. People do that to come out and have a good time with friends, and fellow automotive enthusiasts. The same reason someone goes and spends $40 to get in to see a movie and another $40 at the snack stand. To sit there and be entertained for an hour and a half. You come out here and have a great time for 5 hours with like minded people and have a great time doing it. Not to mention, you get some great drag racing competition on a prepped surface, with safety personnel on hand and with absolutely no chance of getting a ticket or arrested. Can't ask for much more than that. I'm not trying to downgrade what people are racing for. I know the spirit of competition burns within all of us. But let's keep things in perspective. I want everyone to come out and have a great time. If there is anything I can do to help make that happen, then by all means, let me know.
I would also like to address something else. The starting line guys, along with the water box guys don't do tech. If they see a car spraying, or with the wrong tires, they aren't as aware of the classes and rules as the 3 tech officials. We are out there trying to police the cars after the runs and be available for complaints, but not every "official" out there is familiar with the class rules etc. Again, if you see something that doesn't pass the smell test, bring it to Eddie's or my attention. I can assure you that we will find out what's going on one way or another.
Thank you,

We are out there trying to police the cars after the runs and be available for complaints, but not every "official" out there is familiar with the class rules etc. Again, if you see something that doesn't pass the smell test, bring it to Eddie's or my attention. I can assure you that we will find out what's going on one way or another.
Thank you,
James

3 techs... maybe you need 3, 6, etc... more techs out there. there is no way humanly possibly 3 techs can catch the infractions. i will give you 3 techs that much.
why not 2 techs walking through the "pits" and checking cars. 2 or more in the staging lanes. why not make every car run through tech inspection every week? it wouldnt take that long.
oh yeah and stick to whats written in the rule book! how hard is that to do tech guys???

For that matter, why don't we hire a tech for each vehicle there to follow them around all night and make sure they don't do anything sneaky. Come on, there's a point where it can be rediculous. We readily admit that we're not able to tech each and every vehicle every week. We rely on fellow racers to help police each other. It works most of the time. Think of it in pure numbers. We have teched well over 400 cars this year, almost 500. We have less than 10 people complaining. Not too bad if you ask me. We simply WILL NOT make everyone 100% happy. But we are trying to have a good time for as many people as possible. Work with us and we'll gladly work with you.

I agree with you James it would be rediculous.
You asked for suggestions and I gave you some.

I'm pretty confident none of us need to be calling people out for attitude problems.
Yeah but there is a difference from having a little attitude every now and again, and being a complete dick, treat others how you want to be treated type deal.

I was only there once. I thought you were a real nice guy, and everyone who I was with had a good time as well as myself. If it wasn't so far for me I would come more often. If I had a guy cussing at me for wanting to inspect his car for possible cheating I would have thrown him out too. If he wasn't cheating he wouldn't have a problem with you taking a look. You got one thing right for sure, you cant please everyone all the time, thats just the way it is. If 95% of the people are happy then I would be good with that. I will say I don't understand why they would move the Dakotas to Sportsman. I could understand if they were winning by 5 or 6 cars every week, but they have been some really close races. The guy Alex raced in the final just about came around him at the finish line. It was a very close race. I will never be convinced a regular cab short bed full size truck with a health big or small block with nitrous or turbo, etc..... Is an underdog to a N/A Dakota with a small block in it, or a daily driver V-8 Dakota with all power acessories and A/C and all with a single kit, I mean come on. Ive seen a LOT of fast fullsize trucks including diesels at the track that are considerably faster than either of those trucks. If someone shows up with a Lightning or a real fast diesel that smokes everyone will he have to move up to sportsman also? Or if I have a V-6 Dakota with a kit that runs 15's. Would I have to run sportsman in that?

To be honest I could'nt even tell you off hand what brand they are. Tom was right , they are the cheapest ones I could buy. I could'nt give them away last year with the molding tits still on them. I just left them on, and been using them now for the last 2 years. I'll find out tomorrow what brand and size.
