I am looking at some trucks to buy. I have looked at several, and am VERY interested in one that I have some questions about.

I am looking at a 1500 HD Silverado, crew cab right now.
I have drove a few 2500 HD Silverado's in the last couple months.

My question is, what is the difference in the 1500 HD and the 2500 HD???

They BOTH have the 6.0 motor, and the same tranny. They both have the 8 lug wheels.

What are the difference's in the two trucks??? Is it just the frame? I know the standard 1500 Z71 has a MUCH SMALLER frame the the 2500.

If you have any info, or a link to some info, please send it to me.

this is the one I am looking to get.......maybe

I have a GMC 1500HD the only diff is the 2500HD has a bigger frame. The standard 2500 is the same frame as the 1500 HD. My truck looks just like that one color & all. I love my truck will pull a mountain!!!

do you know the pulling (towing) capacity on your 1500HD? what kind of mpg do you get with it without pulling anything?

About 12-15 depending on how you drive it. I have programmed mine it hauls ass with the shift points turn up a little. Don't remember towing capacity prolly go to GM's web site & find out.

The HD's have a great tranny in them. It's an Allison 1000 series 6 speed auto. They're rated moderately to say the least. They are an adaptive transmission....there are no shift points to deal with. Just get in and mash it to the floor a few times to set the adaptives. You also get a tow/haul mode with them or a secondary shift schedule.....performance/economy.

I will tell you, you had better change the red spin-on filter at 5000 miles too. These tranmissions are serviceable with an external filter and a drain plug too.....no more pulling the pan.

I've built quite a few of these tranny's and they are very reliable.

Not in the 1500 HD they have the 4l80e I think is correct. I do know they don't have the Allison for sure thats another difference from the 2500HD.
