View Full Version : What do you tip on average???
I have had several tables from canada (usually going to or coming from flordia) and i've noticed they don't tip very well. They were all very nice and thanked me very much, but they didnt back it up with the cash. So I was curious what % do you all leave on average? This is not meant as a flame, but rather to answer an honest question, thanks.
My tables were really quiet as well..... I don't bite.

Totally dependant on service, usually 10 to 20%.
excellent service should at least equal 20 percent correct.

Well I dont grab my calculator and figure it out exactly but if the service and food are really good then ya I'll usually tip closer to 20% or possibly more.
See I usually just round up a number approximating a total that would include tip and taxes and the like. So if a bill is, say 42.68 with taxes, I'd prob just give $50 for really good service or maybe $45 if service is crap but food is decent. So ya the $50 isnt exactly 20% but its close, it's still more than a $7.00 tip which imo, anything more than $5 is a decent tip at most everyday restaurents (obviously depending on the caliber of restaurent, if Donald Trump regularly goes to the restaurent you're eating in, perhaps there's a slightly higher caliber of tipping. ;) )
Good, then those people who i served knew better. I can happily embrace my anger for them then :D

Well just keep in mind, I'm only speaking for myself... and well most of my friends. There are some people who are just plain idiots and just wont leave a tip no matter what. Although I knew this one guy that no matter where he went, he left a $20 tip, no matter if he just had a $1 coffee or a $50 meal.

There are cheap people all over the world. At least you didn't have any Europeans. They don't tip at all.
i do not tip according to percentages. if your a good server, you will get a good tip.
the way i look at it, a server has no right to complain about not being tipped well. you should have thought about that before taking the job.

Two dollars, I don't give a damn if it is a 3 dollar drink or a 40 dollar meal. Two dollars is my standard and we will go from there. You do a great job I might kick in a little more or if you are a good looking female (sorry but you know its true) or if you get a drink mixed good for me. I usually tip bartenders better than I do a waitor or a waitress. Also, you do a shitty job you will get nothing from me.

Europeans don't tip because the tip in Europe is included in the final price. They probalby expect the same thing here.
