I have heard many different ways of trying to get water spots off of windows... well a few days ago Dave2 and I found out how... We tried vinegar... plastic polish... plain wax... clay bar... etc... all with the use of a high speed buffer with no result. What finally worked to our suprise was (mothers chrome polish) and the high speed buffer... put it on your windows with your hand and rub it all over the glass and then take the buffer to it... Not a random orbit buffer it has to be the high speed directional one to get the window good and hot... and also be careful not to get too close to the window trim or you will mess it up. We did this on my g/f's 2002 1.8T Jetta.. We bought it from harpers and it had very bad rain spot etching and are so happy that this worked.. We still have 4 more windows to go but so far it is looking 99% better... Thanks again Dave2 and hopefully this can help people out there that have the same problem...

Does this help reduce any pitting that has occured too? (ie - from rocks and crap hitting the windshield)

BTW - With the vinegar trick, all you need to do is wipe it on (full strength), leave it for 30-60 seconds, then rinse it off. That didn't work for you? Hmmm.... I'm gonna have to try your chrome polish technique.

im not sure about the pitting but the etching was pretty bad... and it took that right out... we went over it probably 3 times or more to make it look perfectly new but you will have to use the old elbow to get next to the window trim and get them off of the glass there... we tried the vinegar 2 ways.. poured it on the sunroof... let it sit... and also put soaked a towel with it and let it sit on the sunroof also... and neither of those techniques did anything... to be honest i think it was just the grittyness of the chrome polish that took it off.. just sanding the window down sortof... but it looks great and no swirl marks cause Dave2 is the man:)... hope that helps...ian
