I used to hear about the 3/4 race cam and the full race cam but I have no idea what they represent.

I think there was such a thing back in the old flathead days. the name managed to stick around into the ohv V8's due to ppl bragging about there engine.

a lot of people saying it now are quoting chris farley in the movie "black sheep". i love that line actually and use it sometimes myself.

The original 3/4 cam was an Isky for a Flathead...like mentioned above... As to what it really meant, you would have to find Ed Iskendarian and ask him:D

It comes from a guy named Ed Winfield. He started out making motorcycle cams with individual lobes pinned to a shaft. When he first made automotive camshafts, he was using a homemade cam grinder his mother gave him the money to buy. It was a grinder he converted into a cam grind machine by adding a rocker table. He reground Ford Model T camshafts into racing specifications. At first, he first made only two masters... a SEMI race and a FULL race grind. He later made a 3rd master that had more duration and lift than the SEMI but less than the FULL. He then used the FULL race master as an intake and the new master as an exhaust. He called this new reground camshaft a 3/4 race cam. He said it was three quarters of the way to a full race cam. He worked with the then famous Miller Racing engines and later with Offenhauser. Now you know.

Maybe it means 270 degrees duration, or 3/4 or 360. Or perhaps .750 lift. Or maybe its just a redneck way of saying.. 3/4 drag strip, 1/4 street.. or a mostly drag car cam.

EDIT: Didn't read the explination post..

Peace,
Josh
