Spun a rod bearing racing the Nova on the highway. I guess that ticking we thought was exhaust really was a bearing. It starting knocking and slapping real loud, oil pressure dropped to 20 PSI when its normally 60. Motor is coming out sunday... I am broke.... so it doesn't look like it'll be on the road anytime soon.

Sounds like someone detonated. You know it isn't good to spray on the highway!

Unfortunately there has no spray on the car. The bearing spun... well.. shit happens. Spraying wouldn't have made a difference... except for making the car make alot more power than the 400ish it was.

When I read the posting I thought this was going to be about your race against the 03 Cobra last night. :D

So it got killed 2X in one night. Gotta suck for anyone.

Sorry to hear that. When do you think you will have it on the road again?

Depends. I can get a shortblock for cheap, run the same setup and get it on the road within a few weeks. Or... I can go all out... build something forced induction on low compression..

Just have to see what the budget allows. :embarras:

58 grand.

The reason it let go, is because we put stronger ARP rod bolts in it, but at the same time we removed the rods and pistons, we put in new federal mogul rod bearings without checking clearances before we put everything back together.. we just got in a hurry.

Spinning it to 7k didn't help, but if a clearance was off or anything of the like, it ate it up in 5k.

whats the deal with the ls1 motors spinning up that high? Ive seen several that will....are you guys doing custom chips or does gm performance offer some type of extender? What is the factory rev limit?

What is the factory rev limit? LS1 edit my tuner up my rev to 6,700 for me. It does a good job going that high, even on stock rod bolts.:D

I say get you a cheap shortblock and get back on the road quick... Take your motor and put it on a stand and take your time doing it the way you want it to be...

That's what we do every time.
