Killer man, ther is a Black '96 truck here in North West Georgia that is tubbed and has a 440 in it

BUFF_dragon
06-19-2003, 04:41 PM
does he driv eit on the street??? or is it a TOTAL DRAG truck with tube chassis and everything???

cause I SEARCHED for people that might have done that swap to help me out with it..... but couldn't find anyone that even knew anyone that had done it......

Eric Hawkins

No it is a full street truck, let me see if I can get the # of the place that he had it done at. I ahve not seen it in awhile but I ahve not been around here much.

I've got it all figured out now... got the wiring kit on the way

it sucks that I've not been able to find this guy before..... but oh well, I can't wait to get this thing powered up and to the truck, I've had it on the road, and it is a BEAST, with a 3000 stall Trq Convertor it breaks loose at 1500rpm.....

and its got all stock internals, stock cam everything.... just wait till I get a cam and stroke the engine out with some nitrous.......

Killer man, I like those little cars. I have yet to see one around here though. That has the same turbo motor as the Turbo PTs right?:D

BUFF_dragon
07-02-2003, 08:36 PM
actually its not the same motor as the PT's..... the SRT4 is a longstroke engine, where the PT is a large bore..... more trq with the SRT,

I've heard that they feel like a V8's under the hood.... any truth to it???

Silver02ACR
07-09-2003, 11:19 AM
SRT's got the tq of a V8  guess it'd feel the same, haven't been in a broken in one yet :(

Glad to see a Mopar forum, dead, but it's here :)

BUFF_dragon
07-09-2003, 11:34 AM
well, of course its not got my kinda V8 trq..... but I think it was Car & Driver TV that said that it had the trq of a V8 on launch, and they also said that lowering it with some better tires would make it a terrific handling MACHINE........

I'm a big fan of the little cars, I'm glas that Chrysler is FINALLY getting back to the turbo's that they were so potent with in the 80's

I wanna see pics and vids when you can get them..... did I mention that I LOVE those little things??? LOL

Think the wrx one is the most common one found out there. I gotta get down just barely over a second to close the gap between my NA and one of em stock... someday I'm sure lol

I have a ton of videos of them...it wont let me include the files though because they arent pics.....if I had a host of them then I would share, but if you guys are interested you can check out www.srtforums.com and check out the video ssection.

Well here's one SRT-4 right here. I can definately attest to the V8 torque but it's FWD so there won't be any sideways action.

Does anyone know about the SRT-8?

Eric Hawkins

Yea, what's up man? I came by your SRT-4 about 4 times that day hoping to run into you. Well it's cool. The SRT-8 comes out in 2004 and will be rear-wheel drive (with a AWD option) with a 5.7 liter HEMI Supercharged puttin' out about 430hp/480ft-lb. 0-60 in 4.7sec and 1/4mile time of 13.4 stock.....Oh and BTW, it's supposed to be under $30K! This beast is will piss alot of haters off. :D

BUFF_dragon
08-06-2003, 04:17 PM
I can't wait to see one, and see if I can get into one comfortably.... an AWD blown HEMI would make for a DAMN good tow vehicle..... lol

Hey guys, I got a 98 Neon Sport and am in the process of tuning it out. Right now I just have the basics, spoiler, cold air intake, muffler and some other extras ( money's tight). Anyways, I'm just getting into the tuner scene and would like suggestions on what I can do with my ride. Thanx! Oh, btw I'm having trouble with my underglow but I'll tell you about it later.

BUFF_dragon
08-06-2005, 08:59 AM
ok, first of all, stay away from the 'appearance mods' if you're wanting it to go faster....
look into turbo kits, and get rid of the spoler, it will actually hurt your gas mileage, and not help with performance at all (unless you've got it set for MAX downforce, or you're runnin 150mph)

if you wanted the easy way out (well kinda) you could just do the SRT4 motor swap, save up and get the crate engine....
but by far, the best performance mod you can do to those little engines is to turbo them

Ok another problem. Underglow is working fine. Anyways, I have a cold air intake kit and there's no room for the filter in the front of the engine where it's supposed to go, right now I have it behind the engine (only place it will fit) and it's sucking in hot air from the engine, is there a way of installing this correctly so it's sucking in cold air without having to remove any engine or necessary car parts?

Sup guys?
I got a 98 neon R/T which is reasonably quick (mid-low 15) I've got a 2 1/2" flowmaster cat-back, cold air, MSD wires and plat. 4 plugs from Bosch. I wanna get it to go faster but I dont have the money for turbo/blower or extensive engine work. any tips on affordable mods? I thought about an electric turbo which is alote cheaper then a conventional turbo but I would like to know more about them, any one hear anything about those? Well thanks.

BUFF_dragon
11-17-2005, 06:22 AM
honestly, I wouldn't do the electric forced induction stuff.... you may gain a little power, but you have to add more batteries to be able to run it for any length of time, and the weight will kill your times....

if you don't have the money for a turbo system, then look into nitrous... when done correctly, it can be an UNGODLY powerful, and safe, system.... of course you can't run a 250 shot, but with around a 75 wet shot, you're well within safe limites, and if you want to go with direct port wet shot, you can get by with 125 or a little more....

good luck with it,

Hey thanks for the tip on nitro I'll definatly look into that, I was always worried about something like that damaging my motor, but if I can do it saftly then thats awsome.
I got another tech question. My cars handling. It was lowered about 2", just lowering springs were installed, the guy I got the car from didnt change out the shocks, or did any other suspinsion work to it as far as I can tell. well my problem is that the car bounces, aLOTe even the slightest bump disruptes the cars composure? anyway I can fix that, the cars conering ability is hurt especially on not to smooth surfaces.
thatks for the reply

www.neons.org
This is the BEST site for anything you'll ever need to know for the Neon plus you can buy and sell on here too. Look for me tuner98

BUFF_dragon

shocks would help that out ALOT.... they dampen the bouncing effect of the springs... when you put lowering springs in, most have a higher spring rate to compensate for the smaller amount of travel that you have.....

tuner98
11-19-2005, 08:20 AM
For 1 Neons don't have shocks they have struts and beleive me your car does have struts w/ the lowering springs because if it did'nt beleive me you'd know. and like I said before go to this forum www.neons.org and get any and all questions you want answered.

BUFF_dragon
11-19-2005, 10:26 AM
you can put lowering springs on them without changing the shock that is in that strut..... trust me, I know people who have don it.... I know a guy that pulled the springs out of one totally to lower it.....

you CAN change only the shocks in those struts also, how do you think you put hydro's in one, you have to cut and weld the new shocks in.... and its not that hard if you have any welding ability whatsoever... I would suggest going with a better strut package though, it is safer, and you don't run the risks of the welds popping and your car going out of control
