What are some of the fastest cars in your area (1/8th or 1/4 mile)?

There are alot of low 10 sec cars here. Tons of 11 sec cars. My stang ran a 10.21 running out of gear at the 1,000ft mark. Just need to install some 3.73 and it will dip into the 9s. Nothing like 1.39 60fts :)

That's flying! Sounds like you have a good bunch down there. You should see if you could get them to meet on here. You'll be surprised at how many additional people will start to come.

Hey Roy,

I've seen you on the rx7 forum here and there. Probably the single turbo area.

I live Jacksonville. My car trapped almost 129mph the other night. ;)

I was just checking out your current setup. It's very close to what I used to run. Have you had the car to the track? What kind of mph have you gotten out of it?

At the local 1/8th mile track we have, I ran a 7.37 @ 92.xx mph. The mph is low due to my tuning only went up to 7,200 rpms (don't ask why  ) I feel like the mph should have been around 96 mph in the 1/8th. This was on 17 psi on pump gas. I plan on having my 3 bar map installed when I tune my car (very shortly) and would like to turn the boost on up. :)

Sounds like you have your car flying. What do you have done to it? Also, how much boost are you running?

That's very impressive! Mine is close to getting tuned. Looking at running some 6s in the 1/8th, 10s in the 1/4.

Glad to have some rotary support on here! :)

I hope you enjoy the forum!

yea, it's ls1 powered. I haven't worked out all of the bugs or done any tuning yet so I'm pretty sure it's got more in it on the current setup.

Don't take me as a rotary hater. I actually still love them, just when you want to make some power it's hard to keep the damn things together. :)

So tell me some of your likes and dislikes with the swap. How long did it take for the conversion?

dangit!!! I knew 57b stood for 5.7 or a LS1!!!! I was talking to chad last night about it and he said it was prolly just some crazy honda engine code!!! I knew it.

The conversion took me two months. I pretty much busted ass on it after blowing my last rotary engine in a week due to a faulty boost controller.

I have been very happy with the swap. The car weighs 2700lbs with half a tank of gas and still retains the 50/50 weight distribution. Overall the car still feels the same except with the addition of instant torque... (and plenty of it ...especially on the bottle).

What surprises me is how well the car hooks on the street from a roll. It really doesn't break loose a whole lot from a second gear dig pretty much just throws you back and takes off.

It's really nice not having thinking you might blow your engine every time you're full in it beating on the car.

The only downsides I can see to the conversion are...

the tightness and throw of the t-56 shifter. This is really just more of something I had to adjust to. I haven't upgraded from the stock shifter yet so I imagine it'll be greatly improved. I had a ripper shifter on my rotary setup and its had the shortest throw of anything I've felt. So it's kind of going from one extreme to another. I've grown accustomed to it and are getting a ripper for the t56 shortly so it's not really a big deal anymore.

the gearing. I have 4.10's and are running 245-45-16's. Basically, I have to shift to 5th at around 117mph at 6500rpms. I'm going to swap in a 3.9 auto rearend and run a taller wheel to tire ratio. If I run 275 40 17's I should be able to run 4th to near 130mph. This really isn't even a problem unless I'm on the bottle and having to spray 5th all the way to 6k or so. heh ;)

I've broken where my transmission mounts in the tunnel twice in the past week. First time was the driver's side, second time was the passanger side. Apparently no one else besides hinson and myslef are having problems. Although we have both been running the bottle and launching the car on the street and track alot. The transmission is mounted at two points in the tranny tunnel that orginally just had a support brace. Mazda just spot welded these on in a few places so it's not really a mystery as to why they aren't holding for my application. I'm about to reinforce them and don't exspect any more trouble.

I can't even run the car on at the track anymore nitrous or on nitrous with out hitting 11's on drag radials. I have to get a roll bar, firejacket, and harnesses because the officials are getting pissy. this is such a let down. :D

I consider those the only minor draw backs. All three of which are obviously resolvable. But over all I think there are a lot more positives than the negatives associated with my old setup. Hell my motor is still pretty much stock except for the cam and it trap just short of 129mph untuned. I can't wait for heads and a forged bottom end. :)
