So, with all this nonsence going on in other threads i figured i go else where and start a civilized topic. As the title says, any of you ppl out there have bikes? Im planning on getting one by next spring, a CBR or GIXXER.

jeesh people  anyways....
since we're on the topic of helmets, do you have helmet laws in Canada? (just curious) Here in the US certain states do and some don't.
We used to own a '91 Katana (bought new) but sold it 9 years later because we really had no use for it anymore. We went and bought a Cobra instead. Haven't missed the bike ever since.
I had a 99 TL1000R, I sold it last year to help finance the last 2 races of the 2002 season. I have been involved in custom Harley stuff for some time as well, through family ties, but everything has taken a back seat to racing for the last 2 years. I do plan to buy another sportbike at some point, maybe next year.
Not sure what, probably a new 600, I really like a friends R6.

i MEAN wearing full leather... jacket and gloves are a must in my mind, just not chaps or pants.

I was always fearful of wearing shoes with laces while riding. It must've been more of a psychological thing. I kept imagining my foot getting ripped off when the laces got caught on something. So at least some leather boots and a jacket.

well coming from someone who owns a REAL bike......And someone who has been in an accident on a bike......Keep on thinking all you need is a jacket and gloves.......And why waste your money on a crotch rocket?...they lose $2000 worth thier value as soon as you sign the papers......Buy a real bike...One that will keep it's value and wont make you look like your taking it in the ass while riding

thats very true. if you want to be Johnny Rocket Pants, then go ahead and buy a plastic bike.
if you want something you can ride cross country on, or even to the gas station without getting sore, get a hog.
either way, you could wrap some Scotch tape around your head and be covered on the saftey aspect of it.

Such BS, proves you have probably never ridden either bike.
I currently have 2 "hogs" and just sold a "plastic" bike, I can give you a very accurate description of how reliable and comfortable both are...
BBN,
What makes a "real" bike? Your opinion of what people should ride? You don't know much. People buy sportbikes to go fast, not much else, thats what they are made for, Harleys are not, although the new V-Rod is quick...

What makes a real bike?....Something that dont lose it's value when you put your name on the papers....Something that has some history behind it......And something made by and made in AMERICA

Spare me the BS, I have 2 of what you think are are "real" bikes.
A 2002 Rolling Thunder rigid with a stock evo, and an 86 softtail with a 1969 1200 Shovel, rocker clutch, suicide shift. Both scratch made. Will they lose their value, no, do I care no, as I plan to keep em. Are they better than the 99 Suzuki TL1000R I just sold, no way in hell, just different. I like all bikes.

did you sell the helmet with the bike?
harely's are the ricers of bikes. Slow, loud, and annoying.....

sheeeeeeet.
a harley is worth three plastic bikes. its made better, and more comfortable. its real transportation. the plastic bikes are toys.
its like comparing a Lincoln to a Focus. the focus might outrun it in the end, but which would you rather have?
P.S. loud pipes save lives. its not a cliche, its true.
heh...i've been insulting people in the chattanooga - so I'll insult you too, adam ;)
SLP named one of their products after you. Its the Loudmouth Exhaust. Loudmouth, cause its overbearing and obnoxious and Exhaust because all you do is expell hot gases.
take that, hamster. :D

P.S.
Harelys are not worth more than sportbikes, they do however cost more.
Harleys cost what they do because they did an exellent job in the last 20 years with marketing, and people are taking out big loans just to own one. Its all fine with me, but they are NOT made better, NOT always more comfortable, and no way in hell are they more reliable, never, not, nope, trust me on that one.
A family friend, who owns a dealership, makes his living off of Harleys, started building trike conversions a few years ago. He has done a couple for handicapped people that would normally never ride a bike, one thing he told a customer that I know, if you want an image, a downtown cruizer, a name, build a Harely trike, but if you want to go across North America, build a Honda. Sorry, but its true. :waveby:

You are correct, my shovel is a pig in every way, leaks oil, hard to start, blah blah. The EVO is much better in every way, just doesn't have the style the old motors had, but thats just my opinion. I like old school stuff, I like the new big tire, crazy 100+" motors too, but its cost too much.
"go ask a biker if he would ride a honda through the desert and see what he says."
Who am I asking, a REAL biker, one who likes and understands motorcycles, or a close minded Hog rider who has never even riden a Honda, or ever will, based purley on silly pride and on nothing mechanical.
