DO NOT BUY THIS LIARS STORY...
it's a 99% stock 5.0 people...7000rpms????? WTF??
Besides do you really think roller rockers, an intake, throttle body and headers will add 120hp to a stock 5.0...at high altitude??? NO F*CKING WAY...NO HOW.
Nevermind the fact that the factory rev limiter is 6200 rpms and those heads won't support that kind of N/A power.
This is the same assh*le that made fun of Zman's purple car that runs 7's....in the 1/4 mile!! He is just a troll trying to make himself feel better.

Changing the rocker ration is like adding lift at the valve. Period.

so what? it still wouldn't be making that kind of power at 7Krpm no matter if you "port matched" the heads. E7's simply don't have the potential to make the kind of power you claimed and especially not on what is probably a stock shortblock.

Plus when you hit a rev limiter on a chassis dyno it looks like a right angle on the chart.
Oh wait now I get it...he has a 20lb crank, lightweight aluminum rods and it revs so fast it goes right past the rev limiter to 7000rpms. Either that or the Police Interceptor Fan Clutch tells the EEC IV to allow you to rev past 7000rpms.

thats not the point. the stock computer will not allow the engine to rev to 7000. the stock hydro roller lifters will not go to 7000. the factory valve springs will not take 7000 rpm without floating the valves. the stock rod bolts will give out near 7000 as well.
you expect us to believe that you have no rev limit, you have restricted lifter galleries (and a rev kit, and sky high oil pressure), and you have one of those late model 302's that stay together at 7000 rpm. with fresh, aftermarket valvesprings.
yeah.

Yeh used to be able to order those form a wearhouse in Va. with all the special vehicle parts.
To make that hp it would take more than port matching there ole buddy. If ya took the e7tes and hogged the fuck out of them, installed the biggest valves ya could(1.9 intake,1.6 exhaust) and installed double springs with studs and guide plates then I could see 7000rs out of them and maybe 312hp.
As far as the computer not backing ya off at the 6250 limit you would need a add on chip such as a autologic or superchip. Ive had very good experince with the autologic chip and cranked 7000 rs with a hydraulic roller.
After reading your mods I do doubt you are making those #s and looking at your mph and #s id estimate conservatively 240 hp at the tops!
Sorry Steve

I still dont understand this one . . .
312 to the rear wheels and almost 15's?
1.7rr is the equivalent to a more duration cam?
I think not Maverick. Check up on your cam math and you'll notice a higher lift is not the equivalent to more duration on your stock cam. Just because your valve protrudes farther doesn't mean it stays open any longer.
Maverick2010
09-11-2003, 09:19 PM
I live at 3200ft above sea level. If you change the lift the duration will change somewhat
Adam Culpepper
09-12-2003, 01:09 AM
overall duration stays the same. the increase at .050 is negligible. the main advantages to increased ratios are the speed with which the valve snaps open and the overall lift. thats it. a stock cam with roller rockers is still a stock cam. and youre still a liar.
and you stink.
Maverick2010
09-12-2003, 10:26 AM
Valve lift means opening the valve more correct. now if the valve is opened more. that means it will take longer to close giving more duration.:wall:
For someone who is suppose to be respected with his GOD like Automotive knowledge you are pretty stupid.

no, you are completely incorrect sir. I do not have the time to explain it to you, however, there are many good web sites that explain cam timing in great detail. Go to google and do a search.

"Valve lift means opening the valve more correct. now if the valve is opened more. that means it will take longer to close giving more duration."
time to go to school, dumbass. get your backpack and your Spiderman lunchbox.
the lobe on the camshaft remains unchanged, regardless of what sort of rocker you have. the lifter remains unchanged as well.
as the cam spins, the tappet does not begin to lift until it hits the raised portion of the lobe. this is the begining of valve lift, and the begining of any sort of duration measurement. i dont care if the ratio of your rocker is 30:1, you still will not move that freaking valve until the tappet rides over the raised portion of the lobe. otherwise, its still riding on the base circle, and therefore the valve stays closed. take notes, youll be quized on it later.
second of all, you ******* moron, the valve does not take "longer to close." in fact, your valve now closes QUICKER than it did when you had 1.6 rockers. pay attention, jackass.
imagine a lobe with a max lift of .300. with a 1.6 rocker, you would have .480 lift. with a 1.7, youd have .510. thats not the end of the story though.
lets map out this imaginary cam lobe. lets say it has 200 degrees of lift at .050, and that its perfectly symmetrical -- i.e. the accleration and deceleration ramp profile is identical. read this next part very closely, idiot, as im going to map out the lobe in degrees of duration from .050 to .050.
LIFT DEGREE 1.6 LIFT 1.7 LIFT
.000 0 .000 .000
.050 1 .080 .085
.100 33 .160 .170
.200 66 .320 .340
.300 100 .480 .510
.200 133 .320 .340
.100 166 .160 .170
.050 200 .080 .085
look very closely at that. what does it tell you?
truthfully, it probably tells YOU nothing, because youre a retard. i, however, can quickly spot whats going on. think about real time for a moment here. at five thousand rpm, your camshaft spins at the same speed with a 1.6 rocker as it would with a 1.7 rocker. the valve leaves and returns to its seat at the exact same moments. EXACTLY THE SAME MOMENTS. peak valve lift happens at the exact same time as well, though the 1.7 rocker will lift the valve off the seat slightly more. remember this, as its crucial to your understanding of valvetrain.
since the same amount of time passes between .001 and .300 lobe lift, it stands to reason that this makes an excellent constant by which we can compare our valve movement. between .001 and .300 lobe lift, the 1.6 rocker will raise the valve .480 inches, in X amount of time. between .001 and .300 lobe lift, the 1.7 rocker will lift the valve .510 inches off the seat, in X amount of time. the amount of time does not vary!
this means that INCREASES IN ROCKER RATIO ACCELRATE THE SPEED OF VALVE MOVEMENT.
with a higher ratio, your valve is snapped open more quickly, covering more ground in the same amount of time. however, it also closes the valve more quickly. the same amount of time passes, and the valve ends up on the seat at the same time, yet one rocker holds the valve open higher than the others. its a tradeoff. it may increase or decrease duration at a given point, but it never touches overall duration, and it doesnt give you all the area under the curve that you might think it does.
not to mention that large rocker ratios tend to HARM valvetrain stability. thats why most full race engines dont run bigger ratios. big fords can easily run a 1.8 rocker, but they usually dont. its better to make the right cam than to bandaid the situation with a rocker arm, and sacrifice stability. the less the rocker actually moves, the safer you are.
there are a few exceptions to this. an aggressive flat solid with a 1.73 or a 1.8 rocker ratio is a hell of a combination. almost as much valve acceleration as a solid roller, but with the longevity of a flat solid.
but hey, what do i know?
schools out, shithead.
RacingJason
09-12-2003, 05:40 PM
I hate to have to take you to school here Adam but you are WAY off base.
Maverick does indeed have more duration with his 1.7 rockers and I will tell you why:
When his stock 5.0 goes from 6300-7000 during the dyno pull it floats the sh*t out of the valves allowing them to stay open much longer giving him a serious increase in duration.
Schools out.

Like little fucking kids.Grow up. Im not going to say it again but thats what it did at sea level so kiss my ass.
Who gives a rats ass about the elevation? You said 312hp at sea level. I say prove it. Show us some real RWHP dyno sheets, tell us what brand of dyno, tell us where it was dyno'ed.
Some of the best running stock 5.0's made just over 200hp at the wheels (nothing against 5.0's I own 3 right now and have owned too many to count, fun cars) so explain the 120+ hp increase from the supposed head porting (which was conveniently left out until we started ragging you) the cobra intake, TB, exhaust, underdrive pulley set and of course the ubiquitous Police Interceptor fan clutch. I’ll tell you what… set up an appointment at a chassis dyno shop local to you. I will pay the dyno bill if you make 312hp at the rear wheels as it sits.

I think 312 hp is a bit high for those mods...
I did a sm bk with ported N heads for a customer.. 14.5 cr.. 280'ish roller and a BLP alcohol carb and all the rest of go fast goodies money can buy.. it made 556 hp on an engine dyno...no accessories were on it...
