so im looking to buy a car to replace my dead rx7...what do you guys think??

heres basically what im looking for:

80's-early 90's
Rearwheel/Allwheel drive
style really isnt all that important to me..
handling is what counts the most

what im thinking about:

3rd gen Supra
1st gen MR2
1st gen 240sx
87-89 300zx

-or-
id be interested in a 1st gen CRX if it came down to it, although i dont really like working on FWD cars

hmm 1st gen 240 with the sr20det swap would absoulutly kill, we all know that, but in the end nothing kills like a civic ex with a gsr motor swap running 16psi of boost

welllllll.....dont flame me on this one...let me first explain :-)

im all about motor swaps, and i LOVE the 240 chassis...but i like to be a little different, and lately 240s (and SR20s) are getting crazy expensive with that being more and more popular by the day.

as far as performance goes, and being different, i would like to get a first generation CRX (85-87) due to the lightness...hasport has a motor mount kit to plant the B-series engines in there, and i would love to have a turbo mounted onto a B20 block with a B16 head :-)....

but...ive got a history in car audio, and electronics also...the more and more i talk to people about setting up systems in their cars, the more i yearn to hear that bass boomin in my car! we all know, that speed means money, and money means speed..and at the moment i am short on my cash flow.

ive come across a mazda mx-3 at a GREAT price, and i dont want to pass it up...no one really fixes up mx-3s, and i like to look different! they do offer a custom turbo kit for the mx-3s, and they do have a high-performance JDM engine available...but im not one to do things half-assed, and with the shortage of funds ive had lately....to get the car to run fast...corners would need to be cut, and things would end up being done half-assed :(

so...ive got some pretty crazy tricks up my sleeve about what i can do with a car audio system, and im pretty damn handy with the wiring...so ill be that guy you see parked at the street races, with the nice looking car.....that never races. i figure with the weight of subs and amps in the car, ill be running 12's-13's...in the 1/8th mile!!!!

dont get me wrong though, im not gonna be that guy with 700 stickers on his car that only has an aftermarket exhaust, revving on mustangs and camaros at everystop light thinking im bad ass and damn fast

i just provide the music....

sorry about the long post, just wanted to explain my self before anyone started flaming me and calling me a ricer :) i just enjoy my tunes...thats all

the mazda rx-7 is my all time favorite car, whether its fbs, fcs, or fds (had an fc myself) cant afford an fd yet! ;).

but actually, its all about how you set up ther car...you cant say "a supra will beat any honda" there are some crx's out there that are HIGHLY modified, and running 10 second passes in frontwheel drive cars. power to weight, power to weight, power to weight. pit one of those crxs against an equally modified supra, and usually the supra will come out on top....but place it against Mr. Joe Averages modified supra, and the crx will eat his lunch.

ive seen a civic hatch take a ferrari all the way from the launch, and the ferrari saw nothing but tail lights.

its all in the way you set up the car, thats what fun about it...you can usually predict the outcome of the race, but every now and then a sleeper sneaks in there :burnout:

to each his own is what i always say......
but i think its mainly an rx-7 thing, most of those rotor-heads are anti-anything with pistons

no offense to DFWRX7, but hang out at www.rx7club.com for long enough and you'll come to realize that the rx7 owners are a little feisty

What kind of condition are you looking for the car to be in? Have you looked at mid 80s nissan 200SXs? I have a 85 200SX turbo for sale right now. Its RWD and looks alot like an AE86. I bought it to be a project car but money is tight now so I'm trying to sell it. The body of the car is in outstanding condition for the age it is. The motor runs and starts every time but it sputters on the top end. I don't know exactly what it is but I think it is a dying fuel pump. Anyway, Its a fun car but I don't know if it is what you are looking for.

well, thanks for the offer :)

i actually love the 80s japanese cars (FC rx7, MKII Supra, AE86, 240z, etc, etc) but for this car im wanting to do something a little flashy to show off my car audio skills, and maybe make some cash at some bass sound-offs. what ive decided on was a 93 mx-3, the color now is kinda lavender/purplish :gay2: but eventually i want it to be somewhat similar to this car

with one sub in the back, pushing around 1800-2000 watts rms, a nice pair of components complimenting the front soundstage...hoping to hit in the lower 150's on the db mics

Good luck with the bass competitions!

fox-bodies. Go faster than most imports with some bolt-ons. You can't beat the feeling of destroying a riced out civic/integra with the fart can/turbo and everything else with only flowmasters and a k&n filter on a 5.0

But, keep in mind that every import one runs across isn't a civic or an integra - and the possibility exists that one could run across an import that turns them into an import driver because they just got molested without warning. ;)
