I'm visiting Chicago for the 1st time this week

Any recommendations on places to see or things to do? Will just be my girlfriend and myself and we really have no plans as of yet. We are driving up to Indy for the race on Sunday and decided to drive a few more hours to Chicago.

I'm worried about parking and/or hotels at this point. This trip is sort of spur of the moment, and we are kind of winging it - so any advice/tips would be appreciated.
