I have an extra set of MKIV wheels that I want to paint black..Is there anything I need to do to them first? IS there any special type of paint I should be using?

On my old stock wheels that i painted, i used real fine sandpaper to smooth them out, for paint i used Duplicolor wheel paint (autozone) i put 5-6 coats of paint and they lasted 5-6 months before i had any chips, i bought primer to use but i figured if they didnt last i'd sand them down and use primer the second time, but i never used it because they held up good without it.

dam this is an old thread....there used to be several replys and responses that must have gotten lost during one of the "down times."

I ended up using the duplicolor and going with a smoke greyish color. I used 5x7 index cards to keep the paint from getting on my tires. Worked really well. You can see the wheels in some of my autox pics that are posted in the my ride section.
