Im looking for a beater car that gets good gas mileage like a geo or a civic hx...Im looking to spend around $500.00. The car needs to run good and I dont really care what the rest of it looks like. Let me know if anyone has anything for sale, I will consider a wide range of cars.

Thanks,
Sean

I dont know if youve bought anything yet or not but I saw a older model Escort sitting for sale in front of R & D Wrecker in Hixson. That seems to be up the alley your looking for.

I've got a 92 maxima that I may sell when I get the heads back on it. It had a bad front seal and caused the timing belt to jump. I have had the valves and seats done, ported the heads a bit, new valve seals, water pump, cam seals and more already...when done it will have:

new stuff above
headgaskets
valve cover gaskets
timing belt
timing belt tensioner
water pump
spark plugs
...

basically everything from the headgasket up will be new.
I will probably put some new NGK wires on it since I bought some a while back for an engine I have since parted out.
Although this was my beater, I went all out on this repair work and am not cutting any corners on this. The pistons were not damaged by this timing belt problem, and are clean and in good shape. The cylinder walls look very good, with hone marks still visible from the factory. It burns no oil, although it did leak quite a bit out that seal prior to this work. Plugs come out of it perfectly colored. This car NEVER left me on the side of the road...not even when the timing belt jumped.

The interior is not very good. The back seat is out, and so is the carpet and center console. The carpet has been cleaned and stained. It has a Pioneer cd player in it also. No thumpin system, but it works and sounds fine. AC and heat are simply awesome. The heat is so hot it can be painful to hold your hand too close to the vents. It needs no AC charging. It is wrecked in the front passenger corner, but doesn't affect driveability. The cost to repair this damage is more than it's worth to fix the car though so don't plan to fix it.

It is an auto trans and hasn't ever given me any problems. The car has 196k on it, and before this it started like a new car every day...and should be better when I get done with it. I also put a large K&N cylinder filter on it for gas mileage. I got about 330-350 miles out of a tank of gas.

I will supply all reciepts for things I replaced in the past like alternator and cv axles. These have a lifetime warranty. If they ever fail on you, I'll get with you to get replacements as if I still own the car. The axles aren't but about a year old. Brakes are good and have lifetime warranty also.

I don't know how much I will want for this car. I know it will not be for a lot of money over what the repairs cost me. Basically, if you call a shop and ask them what they would charge for parts and labor to do the work I have done, I will probably take less than that for the car.

I got a 92 Ford Tempo Four door, 4 cylinder, great gas milage- just had a new fan assembly installed- only 96,XXX miles on it. It runs great, it's not fast, and it's not--slow?, but it goes from A to B without using alot of gas. Heat, no a/c- just haven't had it in to get filled. Automatic, automatic seat belts( hehehe-crazy shit). Here is the best part- this car belonged to my neighbors husband- I swear the back seat and trunk were never used- NO SH!T- I opened the truck when I got it and it frigin smelled new-crazy, and the front looks slightly used.

Since I added the new assembly, oil change, tranny flush, fuel system cleaning. I'm asking $900- but that could come down no prob if your serious about buyin- I'm in NW TN- carl_lowrance@hotmail.com
