well obviously i understand that it doesn't change the reality that i do indeed have a mustang, but i'm alluding to the fact that there should be more options in the poll as one of our cars in particular may not be our sole interest as far as the hobby is concerned.

This is the way I look at it. I can respect somebody's car if they have put the wrench time in and made the car they have thier dream car or what ever you want to call your car. There are a lot of fast mustangs out there but there are even more slow ones that the drivers thinks exhaust and a K&N air filter makes thier car a 7 second street car. I mean i can drive up on barett parkway any night of the week stop at a light see a mustang. Hold my breath and before i'm struggling for air I can see 2 or 3 more. Its a joke but then agian I think the yankees are too!

I think that this poll is going to be skewed by other reasons than the ones already stated.

Mostly because people that are into Mustangs are REALLY into their Mustangs, so they spend lots of time in the community, whereas some people might not have as strong of a community that happens to frequent this board, so you are asking a question on a predominately Mustang dominated board. Go over to ls1tech.com or turbobuick.com and you won't hardly see anybody that owns a Mustang.

This is the Street Racing Forums message board, and who owns the streets? Mustangs (nutz specifically), who owns the records on the drag strips, Mustangs (Force, Brand, Lynch, etc...), what car outsells every other performance oriented car out there by more than 2 to 1? (I'll give you a hint, it starts with an M and ends with USTANGS!). The reasons are simple, and it has nothing to do with herd mentality, it's all about value and curb appeal. By design they are very pleasing to the eye, fairly well built, easy to modify and can be turned into whatever you want, everthing from road course terror, to street demon, to track destroyer, to simply a rolling stereo that looks good while muffler racing at a stop light. No other car in history has produced such a mass following of die hard fans and eternal loyalists as the Ford Mustang. I've had Camaro's, I've had Firebirds, they were fast, but the fit and finish left a great deal to be desired. Now I am the proud owner of a pair of Mustang Cobra's (as well as a slew of hearses and a truck), and they have been the best cars I've ever owned (and out of 23 cars so far, that's a pretty strong statement).

People love to hate Mustangs too, I've never seen the kind of blanketed animosity towards anything like I have seen towards the Mustang. Why is that? Because people don't like #1. It's cool to not like the guy on top, or to cheer for the underdog, but it doesn't change the reasons why #1 is #1 and will always be on top.

Those that have them think a mustang is the probably the best car ever created and those that dont have them cant get over that everyone has them and they look like boxes. well, it's not really even that. i mean, i know a fox body mustang isn't the best car ever created. i mean, lets get serious here - they're affordable to build and imo you can make them look great (i was stopped twice on the way home tonight from US Play just for people to tell me how much they liked the car :confused: ) BUT there are several cars i would much rather have than a fox body, they just aren't reasonable for someone on a college budget. since i buy everything for my car (including the car itself), i'm limited on what i can do. when i'm done with college, i'll begin progressing down that list though

It's not that I don't know anything about Mustangs, I understand the theory really well, and I worked at Prestige Mustang for 6 months tearing them to pieces, I just don't like working on them.

I do 95% of the wrenching on my hearses.

What does it matter if you do the work or you pay someone else to do the work to your car, or you buy a fast car to begin with? Does that make you less of a car guy because you didn't labor through putting it together, or you work 2 full time jobs and don't have time to work on it (like me). I would much rather have Groff Motorsports or ACD put a car together for me than me trial and error my way to a death trap

I think there's alot of good points being made on this post, but I think you guys are generally agree with each other, but you're just not listening because you're too busy trying to get your point across.

The mustang has alot of history and a really loyal following. It was originally developed to the the working mans sports car. Sold to those of us who weren't privelaged enough to buy a vette. The Corvette will always be Americas sports car (Vipers are just too exclusive). But the Mustang is a car that allows those of us who just want the styling (V-6 guys) to those of us who want a little bit of performance (GT) all the way to those who start to get serious about performance (SVT). But the bottom line is that the mustang offers a really good value for the money. That's why Ford ran the camaro/firebird outta business. Camaros were kicking the shit out of stock mustangs for a number of years. But an SS cost you 37 large (in the last years) and a firebird was basically the same. For that money, you could buy a mustang and mod it and come out with similar performance for thousands less. Now, with the 03 cobra, the tables have turned. I've seen guys slap 1500 into an 03 cobra and run 10's (easily). So for the value, mustangs are VERY, VERY difficult to beat. It's not the fastest car out there, but can be made to perform relatively cheaply and it's certainly not the slowest.

As far as attitudes go, well, I'm not sure. If you go to mustang sites (like stangnet) you'll see mustang owners saying the same sortof stuff about vette owners and viper owners. I think that car owners behave pretty similarly, regardless of their ride. They're proud and they think their ride is the shit, regardless of make/model. It just so happens that mustangs are popular and a dime/dozen.

I personally prefer a street car. If I wanted a 7 or 8 second drag car, I'm not sure that I'd pick a mustang (although a notch isn't a BAD choice). But if you're looking for a fast street car, the mustang is a great choice.

I try to do all my own wrench stuff. but there are some things that are beyond my capabilities (mainly due to lack of proper tools, rather than knowledge, but with newer cars, some things are best left to experts, who can guarantee their work). I've done most of my mods (minus the gears, cuase I don't have the equipment to properly do backlashing) and the heads (obviously I can't CNC port my own stuff and assembling the heads is tricky with cams and what not). But otherwise, I agree, I enjoy the satisfaction I feel after I've done a mod myself (there's nothing like the excitement you feel after you've worked for several hours and you're about to start it up again and go for a test spin).

Nobody likes the snot-nosed spoiled kid that shows up to the track or car meeting that talks shit bout his car and didn't work a lick to earn it and knows nothig about cars. There are several Roush and Saleen owners like that (car will skin ass straight off the showroom floor).

I think you guys have just run into a few too many bad apples, I like all kinds of cars, (if it's fast, then it's fast, I have my own tastes as far as styling goes, but you can't argue with speed).

If you own one or not, you can't argue that mustangs aren't a great value for the money you pay.

What does a GN run stock? Honestly, I've never seen any on the street. The only place I see them is at the track. But I'd be willing to bet that more than 5% of mustangs on the street could handle a stock GN.

The newer GT's are the fastest GT's ever and mustangs get faster and faster each year (stock). Not to mention the newer cobras.

Again, I'm going out on a limb, cause I know absolutely jack shit about GN's, but I would think that stock, they're not going to keep up with a stock GT or cobra.

I didnt vote on this pole even though I do own 3 mustangs.......A Drag mustang, 99 GT, All original non restored perfect condition 79 Cobra. I however, am a Ford Man. I love the older shit like my Fairlane the best but I will say this.........In my opinion, there isnt a better dragstrip platform ever produced for the dragstrip by ANY manufacturer. As far as the car itself goes, and dollar for dollar on the powertrain, Its like a sore dick, you just cant beat it.;)
