I've got a friend with a 2000 (or so) Accord. He replaced the battery and now a security code is blocking him from using his radio. He does NOT have an owner's manual or any sort of documentation for the car. I don't know who he has called or what he asked them, but he says that "the dealership" is giving him a hard time.

What does he need to do to get the security and/or access his radio?

Can they access the code through the VIN or is it something that he has to physically take the car to a dealership?

Pull the radio out and look on the back for a sticker with 5 numbers on it. Hopefully it is on the back, it was in my civic and integra.

They should be able to tell him how to do it himself.

you are correct, on the back of the cd player/radio there is a code.. call the honda dealership with that. doesnt somebody on this board actually work for west side honda? He might be able to help you out

Oh, I'm not concerned enough to do anything. I just said I'd ask around...

You have to call the dealership even if you get the code?

Tell him try looking in the ashtry(lid/bottom/whatever). Also try under the hood in the fuse box. May be on the underside of that cover.

If all else fails, the dealership can run the VIN number. Try Adam that works at WestSideHonda in the Parts Dept.

On my Si the sticker was stuck to the inside of the glovebox. The code was impossible to remember....it was 5-5-5-5-5

Our Accord had it written in pen on the front of the instruction manual. ;)

Should be able to call Honda and give them the vin. That is the way I have always done it. With no harassment.

The VIN will not help at all. You need to pull the radio and get the radio serial number off of it. Than that number is used to get the code for that radio.

I passed on the word. His eyes glazed over, so I told him to take it to West Side. Thanks.

If it has the 5 digit code on the back, then just type it in on the radio and that unlocks it. Problem Solved
