I was comming home from work this evening driving my '98 eclipse I have totally modified it and from what i was told i should be runnign a little over 320 hp ..... anyway .... I was buzzing along at about 50 and got challenged by a early to mid 90 firebird ... he ate at the get go and then icaught up to him (really quickly) and won the race..... anyway I dont think I chose the right gear to downshift too... I bumped back to 4th and was running about 35'gs on the tac and then hit the nos wich put me over the top .... anyone got any suggestions on how I could better handle that type of racing condition?

My other question is, how can i improve my takeoff speed? alot of cars get me on the line but i almost always get them on top end..... if anyone has some advice please share it with me. thanks

I hate to tell you this, but unless you have a supra, or 300 or an Rx7 with turbo etc, you try to pick a race with the newer firebirds, TA, Z or GT mustangs you are going to get your ass handed to you on a platter, granted you you have the money you can make that car fast, but your looking at spending mega dollars on engine, fuel system etc. to run with today's American muscle don't get me wrong there are plenty guys that could hand my ass to me on a platter, but I just saying its harder in those cars, sad part is that old firebird was more than likely a 305 tune port at the most, I'm not for sure if I remember right or not, but seems like their hp rating is somewhere in the range of 215-225 HP from the fractoty, I know that the 350 tune ports were rated at 245, thats why the LT1 were so much faster in 93 rated at 275, then the LS1's in 98 rated at 305 with SS & Ram Air's at 330-345, now that makes a difference, plus these new mustangs are at 300 HP going up to GT 500 at 500 hp and don't forget the Vettes and Z06's of course they are in a whole new price range and now easy to afford but they are Damn fast. Trade that thing and get you a good used Ls1 or LT1, or even a GT, just my thought.
