I was cruising around Ft. Wayne Fri. night after work when a silver '03 cobra parked in a local shopping mall lot caught my eye. I pulled into the parking lot and drove past the two gentlemen standing beside the car not really thinking they would be in any hurry to mess around. Well, to my surprise , as I pulled out of the lot the snake was right on my tail as I came into a red light at the entrance to the mall's parking lot. I turned the traction control off as I wondered what I had gotten myself into. My Bullitt is bone stock down to the air silencer other than a Pro 5.0 Power Stick shifter installed by the previous owner. At any rate, the light turned green and I finessed the clutch a bit and launched with very little wheelspin. I revved first gear to around 6100-6200 RPM and then shifted into second. The Cobra had immediately jumped into an adjacent lane after the green light to overtake me, but remained about a half-car length back. I revved second gear to around 6000 and the cobra was about even with my rear qtr. panel. When I hit third the cobra was still about halfway through second( I'm guessing) and then pulled about a car length from me. The driver hit third well after I did. We got stopped at a red light about a mile or so down the road and I rolled down my window, but neither one of them would even look over at me. The 2nd gen. SOHC 4.6 has come a long way since 1996. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I had 4:10's instead of 3:27's.
