ok here is the deal i think my dad has a problem with his truck. i recently used his truck to help in my move to ky it is a f350 dually 2000 7.3. i am not used to this truck dont know if it is running different or not. i was pulling a 24ft enclosed trailor with a mustang coupe, grasshoper lawnmower plus maybe another 1500lbs for a total of what i extimate to be 7000lbs. nothing for this truck i thought, after using my lightning to pull 5000lb camper. my dad is hard of hearing never uses it for towing never even gets in the boost i bet, poking around everywhere. he rode up with me and this was only the second time it had something that heavy to pull, first in a couple of years. so he cant say for sure how it should pull but we seem to agree should have done better, something is wrong maybe injector problem. i know very little about these trucks and their abilty. going throug the mountains i turned the od off and had to floor it all the way up just to maintain 65 mph i mean standing on it. hell if i had the balls to stay in the boost that long on me L then i could have done that if not better. we only got about 9mpg also.this thing should be dragging this weight up that mountain correct? i have seen a hell of alot of these trucks on the interstate pulling what i know to be 10000lbs plus at good speeds. what is your advise or opinion on this?
thanks alot
jason

How long has it been since the fuel filters have been changed? I would start there. Have you checked to make sure the pedestal mount under the turbo is not leaking? From what you were towing it sounds like it was struggling and it should'nt have.

so we are correct should not have struggled with that weight. now i know he changes it pretty regular not sure exactly the mileage i will check on that. the leak you are talking about is a gasket maybe? i do not have the truck here so i will have to describe to my dad where and how to check this. also he wants to service the injectors to start is there something or somewhere you might suggest taking the truck or injectors for this?
thanks

i work at Wade Ford in Smyrna, we have a diesel injector flushing machine. have you checked the air filter lately? sounds like it might be stuck in the tube blocking air. if it was an injector, you would know it. when was the last time the oil was changed? we get alot of loss of power problems solved with
changing the oil on the 7.3's and the air filters being clogged up. fuel filters would also be a good check. also try and remove the air tube from the turbo and make sure the fins on the turbo are not work away from the edges of the bell of the turbo. just a few ideas i thought i would throw your way.

I'm a diesel tech at allan vigil ford in fayetteville, I don't know how close you are to that location but if you bring it by sometime I will be glad to take a look at it. It could be a couple of things, best thing to do would be hooking up an IDS to it and checking for codes

I'm not to big on the injector flush, I really don't think it does much but thats up to u, thats not whats wrong with the truck doing the flush isn't going to help it.
