View Full Version : MUSTANG GUY NEEDS HELP WITH CORVETTE

my wife has a 73 vette with a 454 with factory air car has been in storage for a couple years any way I want to convert points to electronic ignition also having problems burning spark plugs wires on headers this thing has huge 2 inch primaries and the headers and wires have dei wrap and/or sleeves but yet will burn a wire in like a day also wondering what carb came on this car from factory we are getting it ready to strip and paint car but I would like to get it to crank and run like a Ford lol

The easiest points conversion would be to change out the distributor for an hei unit. I pretty sure you could pick one up at any part store, or summit sells one. You could also throw a 6al box on it and switch to an msd dist. that would be alot more expensive though. I can't help much with the plug wire problem, I have saw alot of people running big blocks using the sleeves and not having alot of issues. I guess in a vette it's a little more cramped though, you could try a set of cut to fit wires and build your own, you may get more clearance that way.

yeah I wanted to drop in a hei but I would have to get rid of the wiper moter another words no room it's sucks

I may have an electronic pickup conversion somewhere around my house. I got it a few years ago with an old points distibutor, it worked great when I was using it, I've upgraded to and msd dist since then. If your interested I will sell it to you with a new msd cap and rotor for the small gm distributors.
