I want to get some ideas from someone that knows how and what to do to make a third gen camaro hook. I have heard a few things, but I would like to hear it from this forum. I want to stay with bolt on upgrades and also stay with mods that will not destroy everyday driveability.

if you have an rs or other later model 3rd gen, with an already factory-lowered stance, traction could be a problem.

I would recommend springs/shocks/struts from an early 3rd gen z28 ie. '84.

make sure all of your motor/trans mounts are in good shape and replace, if necessary.

If you remove the front stabilizer bar completely, front suspension travel during accelleration will increase and so will weight transfer. you will also be reducing the weight of the front of the car.

DO NOT strip out the interior of the rear of the car. I eliminated a couple hundred lbs by doing this, picked up a small amount of mph, and lost about .200 on the 60ft. instead, you should consentrate on reducing weight in the front of the vehicle.

fiberglass fenders and hoods are relatively inexpensive when compared to other kinds of cars.

you might relocate the battery to the rear of the car

remove the front bumper support

depending on your welding/fabrication resources, you can mantain structural stability, while reducing weight in the front radiator support area

eliminate the power steering, and switch to a lighter manual gearbox.

eliminate the a/c and all related components.

switch from castiron engine components to aluminum- intake, heads ect.

find a set of slicks for the rear of the car.M/T ETs are sticky and require little or no burnout

82 and 83 disc brake rearends are often equipped w/ true posi differentials an can be found for $200 or less, if you look hard enough

if you can fabricate stuff, you should lengthen the rear trailing arms about 8 inches. this may cause problems with installing aftermarket subframe connectors, though.

intsalling a rollcage will stiffen the chassis and will help a lot with a t-top car

Hey man,

If wheel hop is your problem, then you can pick up a set of lower control arms, the hotchkis parts are pretty nice and solved my problems.

An adjustable torque arm is a must, depending on how serious of a car your working on, you may want to opt for a torque arm that mounts on a weld in cross member, like the bmr track pack, or the one made by Madman/ JBZ racecars and customs. most people look at mid 11's as the limit for a transmission mounted torque arm. Caution to you though the shorter torque arms do promote Wheelstands.

I've had the chance to hear the explaination behind the madman/jbz torque arm, and it is expensive, but if it didn't work would it be on some of the fastest cars in the nation.

Like this one, Fastest LT1 powered car Period!

Rick's LT1 (http://www.horsepowerengineering.com/media/ricks8.35pass.mpg) Some Strong language is heard in the background, so turn it down if your at work.

Few more recent passes in atlanta (http://horsepowerengineering.com/media/Rick.wmv)

If you want to look into the madman/jbz torque arm then just to ls1tech.com and just do a search, or look for his ad.

Don't let anyone tell you a 3rd gen isn't a hooking chassis, do some looking and you'll find the world's fastest drag radial car is a 3rd gen camaro, All his Suspension is BMR stuff.

there are alot of people getting down the track with stock springs, you may want to in vest in some adjustable or drag struts/shocks.

pm me some time, i'll be back in town in the next 2 weeks.
