'98 zx6r timing chain

Ok, so I think my timing chain is going. I'm hearing a lot of rattling coming from the engine. Is there a built in tensioner on these bikes, or how do I need to go about this? Should I just replace it? Let me know!

It rattles like a bitch, even after its warmed up - it starts rattling around 4k rpm. I'm pretty sure its not in the valve train, I've never heard this sound before. Its been going on for a while now though, and I sat in traffic for probably 40 minutes a little while back and it died and wouldn't start back up. I would just replace the whole engine since its got 40k miles and it also needs a clutch anyway, but I can't find any for sale that aren't 800 miles away. Anyway, let me know what you think.
