I had never owned any type of motorcycle before I bought my 02 GSXR 750...A lot of people thought it was too much bike since I had never owned one, even though I had ridden a few times. Anyways though I have been very happy with it...I think it doesn't matter what you get (cc wise) as long as you have the discipline to control your throttle until you get comfortable enough to hammer it...but give yourself time on a streetbike...too many people buy them and wreck them soon thereafter b/c they try to do too much to soon...just be safe on whatever you buy.

If you ask me it all depends on what you want to do with it...Cruise, race, or pick up women....In any of those i would have to consider a Suzuki...:D If you wanted to cruise it i would probably say a gsxr 600 ( just to ride ) :dumbass2: A 750 would be great in all aspects just take your time....And believe me you gotta respect it..I wouldnt start out any bigger...:D

yeah i learned to respect the bike i have now REAL fast. this is the first bike i have ever strapped my ass to, and its a YZ125. I thought man i can handle this no problem.........then in like 2 secs. i was on my ass. I think i will go with the GSXR750.........i wanna cruise, race, maybe pull some stoppies, and do wheelies down the interstate hauling ass :D
Should i go with a used bike or go BRAND SPANKING NEW.....?

I would get a used one for a 1st. Especially if your wanting to do some wheelies and such. You can find some good deals around now.:D

If your going to be learning to do tricks on a streetbike, I'm with JR and would say go used...I bought a brand new one, but its rare to ever see me try a wheelie or a stoppie...but if you live around chattanooga RT Cycle probably has some great deals on some 03 750 just to get rid of them...thats where I bought mine for cheap.
I would say a turbo or Nitrous Busa stretched 7" over with air shift and full electronic ignition kill. You may want to hold off on the wheelies for a while though.............................you gotta know I'm kidding. Hey JR and Gixxer aren't steering you wrong. From what it sounds like you want to do, I would agree the GSXR750 would be the choice!!!:D

I love my 02 750...i think that it is one of the better all around bikes for corners, wheelies, and it still has a good bit of power. I would say if your set on a 750 only get an 01 or up...from 2000 to 2001 they got lighter and more powerful from what I know of them.
I'm not much for the wheelies but thats only cause I have seen some good friends go down, but I won't mention any names b/c they will read this tomorrow:D

get you some frame sliders and they should protect the body but you'll break your mirrors and turn signals and scratch the bar ends first

I'll have to vote against these guys and reccomend the R6. It's long been known as the best handling bike....and in these days when everybody likes to push them to the limit, it's always best to have that limit just a bit higher.
No offense to these guys, but I always saw the GSXR in the same light as the mustang....every redneck in town either has one or wants one.
But, all opinions aside, you really should decide for yourself, as they're all good bikes and have strong points. Go to a dealership that has 2-3 brands you like and ride them all. Then ride them all again to be sure. Sometimes the first impression will be best, and sometimes the last. Make sure that you give each one a fair shake and don't let any irrelevant issues influence your decision.
As for the "starter bike" theory... I didn't want to buy a tricycle and think I was learning to ride a 2-wheeler. I think that as a beginner, you want a bike that's good so that if you do wipe out, it was your fault, not the bike's. The R6 is my first sportbike, and I've not laid it down once, not even in the garage. Respect is important, but not as important as fear. The day you're not scared is the day you need to sell your bike. Don't worry about competing with your buddies. Give them the glory...let them be faster. No shame in it. If you don't race, you can't lose. Ride how you're comfortable, as you're the one that will get hurt and have to pay for repairs if you wreck. It's a lot more embarassing to wreck your bike than it is to get to the end of the road last every time.

I agrre on some of this. But first of all i have bought7 Brand new bikes and never got to test ride them.Second, about the Gsxr's,the dominate the series i race in.That is why i have one.I am not a diehard Suzuki fan as anyone that knows me,knows i would rather ride my Kawasaki. But in order to win money and races,i had to bite the bullit and get a Gsxr.Me,Jr,Big Dave,1qwikgixxer and Dash all race this same series and we all have Trophy's and money to show for it.by the way, these post have not been baqshing any kind of bike i don't believe. He ask for our input and we put ours, now you put yours and we apprieate that.Hell, thanks for even coming to our section.Come on back sometime and shoot the crap with us. :)

Like i said before. It all depends on what you want to do with the bike....:burnout:

The Suzuki may dominate the races you're in, but that still doesn't say it's a better bike. Look at the big championship races...Kawasaki has been beating the hell out of everybody. It's not really that the bike is better. I think it's because they simply have the best riders. I mean they have Bostram and Hayden, and a couple other awesom riders that seem to step up to the plate on occasion also. In racing, it's nearly always going to be the rider that makes the difference, not the bike. I'm sure you'll agree with me on this.
Why is it that you've not been able to test ride any new bikes? I've never bought a new one, but a friend of mine has bought several...and he has gotten to test ride them all. Personally, I'd refuse to buy one that I couldn't ride first.

Ill be the 1st to tell you that rider makes a huge difference but suzuki has been makin beter power as far as racing on the streets and at the strip...Thats what my bro was tryin to get at...And as far as coming straight off the floor power...All the AMA riders bike are not at all stock, so theres not really a comparison in our world.

Sure there's a comparison. The point is that if you had 2 riders, one quite a bit better than the other, the better ride will win even on a slightly slower bike....and as for street bikes, they're very close to the same in power. Fact is that in the street riding world, there's much more differences in rider skill levels than in motorcycle performance (unless you're counting mopeds).

Yeah...sorry if I misled you by not being very clear. I guess the same holds true with dirtbikes to some extent. I mean you could put me on the baddest bike ever and I'd get smoked by the average amateur racer on an 80cc stock machine :)

I understand. We all have our favorites. I guess one of the things I dont' like about the Suzuki is how long they stayed with the same color scheme. I know they had others aside from the blue/white, but damn they were totally gay looking.
I honestly havn't ridden a GSXR. You'll have to give me a shout sometime and we'll try each others bikes. I don't mean hit the twisties, but just a short ride in town or something. I never ride another person's bike like my own. I'd hate to pay for a bike that's not even mine.

you know when i bought my 750 there was a good deal on a R6 as well...i thought about giving it a shot to see if i might like it, as i had only ridden gsxrs....they wouldnt let me test ride any of them...since i had only ridden gsxr's i went with the 750...glad i did though.
