Hey everyone,

I just wanted some insight on my first system.

Currently installed on the car is the following

Pioneer Head Unit - Not sure of the exact model but it is the "Super Tuner 3"
I also have 6X9 pioneer speakers in my rear deck.

Now I want some subs to get it bumpin. I plan on getting 3 12in MTX Audio Thunder 8500's. I have done some reading, and they seem like a good buy for their price, reliability, and sound quality. As for amps, I plan on running somewhere around 700-800 watts to each sub. Any ideas for how many amps of what brand? As for amps go, I am totally in the dark.

Do you think this is a decent setup for a first system? I am not looking for competition subs or anything, just something that people will notice and that sounds fairly well.

MTX is not a bad brand, and is underrated. THey're not as good as some of the top brands, but are priced more around that of the cheaper ones.

Also keep in mind that many companies lie about their wattage output. Think about the old Pyramid amps that were the size of a cigarette pack. THey said they were 200 or 300 watts, but weren't anything more than about 20.

Rockford Fosgate is opposite. I had an amp that was rated at 45watts, yet put out 142 a channel.

With amps, you get what you pay for. Buying used is the best option because suckers buy more than they can afford and then need cash a month later and will sell for much less than new. If you buy new, you will lose tons when you go to sell your stuff.

My last bit of advice is to buy the good stuff, and add to it... rather than buy junk and replace it.

to add to the last one...there is sooo much to consider when (doing it right)......was wondering why 3 subs...was this something you just wanted to do or saw and liked it or did someone tell you more is better?......just asking because i have three myself.....but in using three there is more to consider than just how much power you have...it gets into how many amps are powering them and how they are configured. learn about oHms and how power gets distributed from amps to speakers .....also learn about single and dual voice coils.......that way you can make an educated choice and not have to listen to someone else and find it doesnt sound as good as you hoped

I have 2 Polk MOMO 8's in my car that sound pretty damn good! Granted they are in a thousand dollar custom box and powered by an even more expensive amp.......... :D

My friend has mtx and he's pretty happy with them. He has a nice box though. I would recommend them all together, but don't expect the world.

Just be sure to match you wattage RMS with what your sub asks for. i run an Ample AWD-100 in a wicked custom built box. It calls for 200watts so i run a kenwood 200 watt amp. Boxes are the boom of bass. My sub sounded bad in a bandpass box. okay in a sealed box. But my custom slot ported box Makes it boom. Remember that.

Depending on what you want and what fits your ride. All the brands and specs they said are good. But also depending on your budget.
