I drive a 2001 Hyundai Accent GSi. The US didn't get a GSi/GT package in 2001 so if you wonder how it differs, here's a link Canadian Driver's Review of the 2001 (http://www.canadiandriver.com/testdrives/01accent_gsi.htm)

It's winter here now, so the snow tires are on and my ideas for the spring begin. I ran Falken Azenis Sport tires on the factory rims this past summer and the handling was amazing. Besides that the only things changed are a K&N panel filter, no intake resonators, a nice rice muffler, and no Hyundai or Accent GSi badges, just the Hyundai symbols. Interior is totally stock save for a black leather shift boot. I run Mobil1 in the engine and Motul Gear300 in the tranny. Here's my list of imminent changes in present planned order:

B&M short shifter
Konig Holes 15x6.5
Falken Azenis 205/50/15
Racetech front and rear strut tower braces
KVR slotted rotors
KVR brake pads
AP 5.1 brake fuid
Sparco Speed Driver's Seat w/4point harness
2" cat-back exhaust
RPW 4-2-1 header w/high-flow cat
CF CAI intake
Rear adjustable swaybar
Coilovers
S-AFC controller

I think this will extract a bit more power from the 1.6L, but mainly will increase its handling performance which is where this little car excels. I'm keeping this car until its paid off and the above parts wil make it fun until then. After that I'm thinking of buying a 2003+ Tiburon I4 and running FI.

Any comments, concerns, considerations?

It's not that bad. A lot more than I originally expected. When I bought it 3 years ago, it was the most I could afford on a new car. In retrospect, I should have bought a 1G DSM, an early 90's Legacy Turbo AWD or a late 80's/early 90's 5.0L, but I was really tired of having an older car and wanted a brand new car.

I'm kind of attached to the little beast now, It's no drag racer, though I've taken it twice, 17 seconds both times and its not going to walk anything on the highway unless of course their top speed is less than 200km/h, but it's like a go-kart in the corners and it's excellent on gravel and snow at speed.

Besides I like standing up for Hyundai, of course I'd make a stronger argument if I had a F/I Tib or Elantra. The 2.0L Beta motor was designed to be stout enough to handle turbo.

Wow! That car causes a drastic increase in heart rate! Beautiful. I'm not sure which is my favourite car, the Charger or the Challenger, but either way its definitely Mopar Muscle. One day, when I have a house with a garage, I'd like to get an old Dodge and restore it, but until then I'll have just my daily driver which will be small, agile and fuel efficient.

I'm thinking about trading the Accent in come spring if I can get what I owe on it. I've been looking at the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, 162hp 2.4L MIVEC, Evo8 suspension according to the dealership, 3-point front strut tower brace, Evo 8 shifter assembly, free flowing exhaust, 16" wheels and good size brakes with ABS and EBD. There has been no news yet as to when or if the Evo8 is coming to Canada, the Ralliart would make do very nicely.

Quite beautiful I must say. I bet the heads turn when you drive that thing down the street. :)
