so now i wanna make it faster and such. i dont wanna jack it up and stuff. just maybe a banks, bully dog, ect... system on here. any thoughts?

I've got an 04 with all Sct programming 5 files by Aric Carion it is nasty with just exhuast and air filter system....Excalibrator is the programmer....but he does custom files to raise trans shift points...and speedo calibration for tire size and speed limiter....

sounds sweet.

i got a question. before yall got the tunes and upgrades did you notice any turbo lag right off the start (say from idle to about 1500-1800 rpm's) im new to having a turbo diesel, so i was just courious.

thanks.

i want something thats gonna give me more power and boost but also help my fuel economy.

please inform me as much as possible because this is again my very first diesel.

i did buy the extended warranty on the truck to 100k. it covers engine trans electrical ect... i know this stuff usually voids warranties but i could also remove it before i get it serviced.

i called brad brand the other day. he said he has seen other a9l computers that would not take the pms or motorsport extender. but he said he always gets the chips to work to extend the rpm's

SCT is hands down the best programmer for the 6.0's. Do a search on the Powerstroke forums.

FYI,Youre gonna need that warranty, the 6.0's are a piece of shat!! Should have got a 7.3, Duramax, or Cummins.

Blast away you buncha Ford F-ers :lazer:

EDIT: Let me clarify before yall get in a huge debate of Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge. The Super Duty is by far the best "truck" but the 6.0 is just a junk motor. Best of luck with it, you may never have one bit of trouble. Its just that almost everyone I know that owns or has owned one hated it and got rid of it bc it spent more time in the shop than on the road.

Don't mess with a 6.0 as Jimmy can tell you; they will spend more time in the shop than on the road.

I havent had the first problem out of my 6.0(knock on wood) Ive been running the Edge Platinum since I bought the truck and havent had any problems out of it either. Its got a nice display that will let you monitor TONS of different parameters and you can change power levels on the fly with no problem either. I think the power levels go from 20HP up to 115HP and from 40ft/lb up to 290ft/lb. I also have a 4" SS turbo back from bullydog and a FIPK from K&N. I love it and wouldnt do anything different.

if you work for ford, why wont you update the PCM in the truck? my personal opinion i work at a ford dealership and as a diesel mechanic see majority of the 04 and 05 6.0's blowing head gaskets mostly due to the owner either overloading the truck or towing with the programmer hooked up while in tow if you read in TSB's for that truck theres one stating that customer should not tow with aftermarket chip or programmer that will result in overheating or engine failure.most programmers do ok with the truck not loaded but stresses the transmission ive seen a few that have had problems. majority i see from the 6.0's is owner abuse and failure to maintain the vehicle

100% agreed about owner abuse. but they most tuners have a tow mode. the problem is that people leave them in the leave the performace tune in and then tow the hell outta them.

working at the dealer i can use the stuff we have here. im not a diesel tech. so i dont think that i can adj fuel/timing and boost from the ids or pds.... however i could be wrong. please inform me

I'm a diesel tech at a ford dealership, and personally I think you got the best year model hands down, I hardly ever touch 03 models, its your late 04's, 05, and 06 that are junk with the high pressure oil pump problems, 03 had the good pump where there was not a fitting to leak like on the newer models, thats the biggest problem I see and I do a high pressure oil pump fitting probably 4 times a week. You can't change any boost, fuel settings with an IDS. If I were you I would go to www.dj-performance.com, you can pick your own tunes he gives a list on the site of about 10 tunes and you can pick 3 or 4, check out the multi media on the site. If you go to deisel stops website there are alot of guys that us his tunes and say he's the man. I heard his crazy larry tune is sick.

by the way put the latest calibration in the pcm if it hasn't already been done. It helps the injectors out alot, really helps with any cold start problems in the morning.

i know i might get blasted for this, but the best exhaust kit that i have done and liked the performance for the price was MBRP exhaust. around 450 turboback my price. just make sure to turn the muffler around backwards for a nice loud deep mellow tone. i love them. the hangers are a little tricky, but it works excellent. Diesel Stop would be a great place to check out online for any upgrade answers and questions. if all else fails, call Garmon

the excursions are a little bit more peppy than the F-series you can program the f-series for it but you have to manually load it and make it think it is a f-series but it gets aggrivating loading gear, tire size and etc... id leave it stock change oil and fuel filters regular and drive it like you stole it

My 2004 ...built August 2004...nothing but problems
http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/8082/picture020yd6.jpg

I had a 2004 Powerstroke ext cab 6.0 and I must have had a lemon or something. I never towed anything with the truck, but had soo many troubles with mine. It was my first brand new truck and sold it with 17k miles over a year ago. I changed both the fuel filters at 7k and 14k miles, oil every 5k miles, tranny filter at 10k miles. I am particular about maintenance and don't neglect the truck like some do.

-go figure....oil pump fitting 3x
-turbo would surge and studder in traffic....in 285 traffic truck would buck and jerk, then surge forward (scary as hell in atlanta traffic)
-transmission output shaft bearing failure at 1200 miles
-injector pump at 8k miles and 9.5k miles (maybe faulty part)
-ac compressor at 14k miles
-Never had a tune on the truck...bone stock. When it was driven hard it ran like a top, but in traffic and stop and go, it was an absolute nightmare. First and last diesel for me ...at least for a while. I bought it beacause my friend had a 01 7.3 Powerstroke with 140k on it with no problems.

Its like anything else man. There are good and bad of EVERYTHING!!!. We've got an 03 too that we pull a 42 foot enclosed with all the time WITH a chip and havent had ANY problems other than an EGR ONCE. When the truck was brand new, we had the computer flashed twice, but other than that....NOTHING! I know a lot of people have had problems and a lot of people have done nothing wrong.....BUT a lot of people cause there own problems because they dont know how to take care of anything and theyre too damn stupid to realize that you cant chip it all the way up and hold your foot on the floor 24/7. If you set the backdown limits like youve got some sense, you wont have anything to worry about. The EDGE programmers will automatically defuel the truck if the boost or EGT's get too high or if the trans starts to slip with the converter locked. Again, its like everything else.....respect it, take care of it, toss in a little common sense, and you wont have anything to worry about.

go to the 6.0 section on www.ford-trucks.com and you can get all the advice you need, but most like the SCT better than any of the rest, plus it can be custom tuned if need be.

and the SCT with custom tuning is by FAR the best. I use DJ's Diesel performance for my tunes. We just got back from BUGMANS race at Carolina dragway and I unhooked the car trailer and ran a 8.69 on my aggresive towing/all around tune(its been a 8.63@76mph). I have a track file but havent had a chance to run it yet. Heres a good link

Good luck with the 6.0L. There fine if your not towing a lot or a heavy load. We had nothing but problems out of ours and so did other vendors we see on a regular bases. I got a new 2008 6.4L twin turbo and I love it. It has a lot more power. We go through the mountains with no problems now. The only thing that sucks about the 6.4L is the fuel mileage. It only gets around 7-8 mpg with the trailer.
