with no power mods..... no way in 1/4, but i think you should be able to push it to that in the 1/8

TonyBolton

Takes 260-280whp to run 12's(in a Mustang)in the 1/4 with proper gearing/tires/suspension. Just food for thought.......

I never said I'd trap 160 or anything, probably closer to 108-110-ish. Thats only like 8.2 in the 1/8th.

i am not a hater.....you will have to have a really nice set of gears, good slicks, and a super good suspension. It is possible, but it will have to be a perfect run. have you had your car dynoed yet? Typically a car will have close to what is estimated but there are also to many real world conditions and circumstances to factor in. But with a bone stock gt with just suspension and drivetrain upgrades it will be very hard to do what your trying to hit. I say you will break high to mid 13's at best . Not hating but being honest.

Hmmm, i sure hope with SOME form of suspension, SOME form of HP-increase I will be able to find .4 or .5 seconds in the 1/8th mile. If im running 8.64's with a stock GT with a K&N, I'd sure hope with about an extra 30whp on top of my 231whp DYNO that I should be able to run that.

This isnt Ricer-ville where you hafta turbo/increase boost and make 400whp to run low 13's. :jerkit:

I guess the saying is TRUE......."It takes one to know one!" (Domestic driver :D )

Im pushing a best 1.78 60 so far, with 1.83's being more common, I should be able to knock on the 12's with the crap in the closet. Im trying to add the things to the car that would help both AUTOX/RR'ing and Dragracing. Im finding there are alota compromises out there, it seems to be great for one, shitty for the other. My spring choices are going to hurt me the most I fear, and when it comes down to it, im gonna go the route that favors the corner-carving.

Hey Tony… I think some of us from HPT will be going down to Steele in January. You should come down. I'm sure you'll break into the 12's there.

TonyBolton

.......I've been just loosening the endlinks(like finger loose), but if to travel to a 1/4 track, I will do just that........remove it! Im almost at the point of buying some 15x5's or 15x3's for the front as well. The huge 9.5's up front with 275 rubber don't really cut it for straight line stuff. Ive got my space saver spare, wonder if anyone there would let me use one theirs for the time being? We'll see.....

Hopefully by 1/10/04, I should have the battery wired up and dropped in the trunk as well. It's kinda a "good for DRAG, good for RR" mod.

By the way.....I did put up a reply on that thread. I believe one person lives in Farragut, and said that Steele is 197miles from his driveway, so that means it should be about 10-15 less miles for me in Loudon!

Steele's elevation in only 500' and in january if you hit a good high baro/cold day you will see -100-500' or so DA and that will knock off a tenth or two (or 3) off depending on what the altitude was at the tracks you ran the 8.60s at. You'll need an 8.30 in the 1/8 to get in the 12s..

I would like to go but I doubt I will make it, my trans just left california yesterday and I still ahve to make cooler lines and a crossmember and I need the trans for that..

Its all just power/weight and 60' - and not missing a gear :)

I've got the gear, got the traction, got the weight advantage.......I figure I'm a good contender!

I'm not sure if I'll be into 5th gear through the 1/4, however. A 4.10 with a 26" tall tire should be put me real close to top of 4th I think. As long asi can keep a launch somewhere in the low 1.8's and do the 1-2 shift decent, I think I'll be ok.

And Andy.....please come down this way if you dont mind. I bet the Steele track is like 1.5 seconds faster than Bristol! ;)

I think 8.40 to 8.45 in the 1/8 puts you in the 12.99-13 flat range.

You should be able to get there with a 4.10 gear and tires

Where are you going to pick up 30hp? You should know that on a mustang all you need is; tires, gears, rip out the interior/ spare tire, air filter and 150 shot. Thats it. You will be in the low 11's or better for $1500 or so. Why wast you time and money on anything else.
That way you don't screw up your car for auto-xing either.

I just thought of something, You need a bad ass clutch to hold 5500 rpm launch with et's and a 150 shot... So Under $2000.. You might even beable to do roll on racing you like to do so much of..;)

i could add a CAT-less mid/H/X pipe, thats 15whp....
I could run a different upper intake plenum/TB, thats 15whp.....
I could run a timing adjuster/chip......thats 10whp

Or I could add the 4 together and be really happy :gaga: Hmmm, almost sounds like a plan huh.

Keep in mind, my car HONESTLY is pretty much stock. The only power producing part on the car is maybe the filter, and thats good for what......3whp? So, I have pretty much a blank canvas to work with.
No, not trying to be a smartass(this one time), I dont really wanna put "drag only" items on the car, N02 being one of those. I just dont trust it with my plastic(yes it has a plastic intake manifold)manifold.

I dont think I'll dip 12's this coming month when we goto Steele, but it'll give me an idea of what is working, what isnt working(my driving style), and what i'll need. Id really like to run that 12.99 on my usuall 87octane gas too! I dont think ill have EVERYTHING in time for 10th, but I'm workin' on it.

You guys should goto the 1/4 with us in January. It'll be my first time in this car.....hoping it does mid 13's as it sits now worst case scenario.

TonyBolton
12-22-2003, 04:59 PM
yea, I think ive got the "traction/launch" issue figured out. The drag radials and the 4.10's picked it up alot......it just took me a while to re-learn to drive with them. Theres a real sweet spot to the start with that gear setup, you(or at least "I") either hit it just right, or you might well just hit the brake and coast down the lane.
