just wondering if anyone else is having any problems busting powerglide cases???? both of my cars are setup exactly the same way and i broke the 1.82 plantarys in the blue car so i changed cases and went to a 1.76 plantary and a bte top sportsman pro brake and the car runs great on footbrake had a 1.41 sixty foot leaving at 2500. i made about 7-9 passes on fb and then lauched it on the transs brake at 3400 and it busted the case on the drivers side torward the back justright infront of the tailshaft.

gene davis had same problem in a 78 malibu his problem i dont know if it matches yours was car twisting and breaking them,but i want to say his was breaking around tailshaft but i could be wrong

both are solid.. and the car goes straight and does not twist with the anti roll bar. it picks both wheels up about a foot and goes straight.

but why would the orange and yellow car not break the case its the same thing and it gets a 1.43 sixty foot and its not broke one in 3 years?

and i have let at 5000 before in it and its not broke and run 2 classes everytime it goes to the track on a bracket night

Carp is right.. Thats why I asked, the yellow car might flex different. But a solid trans mount is a NO NO... It will fix the problem.

i have solid motor mounts and poly trans mount. had good luck so far. hope you get it figured out.

i would check trans endplay and driveshaft length and with the pinion angle being negative and leaving on the brake it moves more. i run rubber rubber or solid solid depending on application. the blower car is solid solid so that rules that out and knock on wood never broke one yet.

If its solid solid, its just a matter of time I would say. It all depends on the flex in the car though and that car is good and straight when it leaves. But I agree that Driveshaft length might also be a problem. I have seen bent output shafts do it as well.

I run solid motor mounts and the rubber type trans mount also.

WELL I HAD THAT PROBLEM WHILE MY CAR WAS RUNNING. CRACKED CASE,
FIXED IT CRACKED TAIL SHAFT CASE. PURCHASED A AJE TRANS CROSSMEMBER FOR A GLIDE IN A FOXBODY . IT MOUNTS SOLID TO TRANNY
BUT HAS POLYURETHANE WHERE IT MOUNTS TO CHASISS
WHEN I INSTALLED IT I HAD TO LOOSEN MY MOTOR MNTS CAUSE THE TRANNY AND MOTOR WASNT STRAIGHT. WITH THERE CROSSMEMBER CENTERS EVERYTHING UP AND MAKES IT THE CORRECT HEIGHT ALSO.
WELL WORTH THE $$ IN MY OPINION.

thats what i run shope and its solid solid. anthony jones engineering. its a nice peice but hard to get in.

MY IS NOT THAT HARD TO GET IN? I THINK ITS THE EASIEST CROSSMEMBER THAT I HAVE EVER PUT IN.

I had a 79 Camaro stock suspension car, did the same thing. Had solid motor & tranny mounts and kept breaking powerglide bell housings, put a rubber trans mount and still busted cases. Only way I was able to stop it was by putting in a mid plate between the block & trans, no problems after that.

after busting three trannys we finally figured it out too much in play was busting the cases.

Put a rubber trans mount on it. The chassis is twisting and busting the case. Seen it a thousand times.
