in all of you guy's experiance or opinions. what is generally the best intake option with a dominator? use the 4150 style intake you already have with a adapter. or buy a new intake that has the 4500 flange? i've heard both are better than the other. just wanted to see if anyone tried it.
example: a friend of mine ran a vic jr intake with a 4150 flange and adapter. he went to a super vic with a 4500 flange and the car went from 6.30's to 6.50's. he said something along the lines of the adapter plate acts as a venturi in the intake creating more air velocity. i don't know. i'm just asking.

might have been the fact that the super victor was just too much intake for the engine?

he's got more engine than i do. his was a big block chevy with dart heads. and mines just a little 383 with dart heads. i may stick to the smaller intake.

my 383 has a vic jr and it seems to work fine. its not really much of a motor though.

i put this carb on last year when i had the camaro. and it picked up. so when i get it running in the mazda i will be using this one. the only difference is now i have a nitrous plate. so it looks like a tunnel ram now. pretty redneck.

choice of car was redneck to so go for it.if your worried about looks over function your in the wrong game.Dart offers a nice sbc intake for a 4500.you can put an adpater on it if you go back to the 4150 or just keep your intake you currently have.how much lighter is the new car?

the new car should be about 500 lbs lighter. and none of what you said made any sense. and i was trying to get away from the redneck car (3rd gen camaro) for a less of a mullet ride.

how did it not make any sense? I would have kept running the camaro those cars can be made nice look at Chuck Samuels that car is bad ass his old one or the new one.If you buy a rail just think how fast you can go in it. DOOR CAR OR NO CAR for Me

no, the fact that if i buy a new intake for the 4500. then i have to buy a new nitrous plate or fogger. and is it worth it? from others have pm'ed me, the way i have it now is the best way to go anyway. so why spend all that money to go slower.

shouldnt your post have been which 4150 intake to go with? if you allready knew you would have to spend money on a new intake and plate?I am not trying to be a dick just wondering what you really want to know?

I got it but you had your mind made up so why even ask a question? you dont want to buy another plate or fogger and you want to know which is better.
1.Dominator specific intake would be better
a.will not set carb as high in the car
b.will not have a bottleneck effect and have better fuel distribution
does that answer your question?
now for the cheap answer
2.Keep you current intake
a.no outlay for anything else
b.have the look you said you dont want (carb to high)
You cant even compare your friends car to your car.big block vs small block APPLES TO ORANGES
You sound like your mind was made up when you first posted what you were gonna run
you want to try something try a holley strip dominator if you dont want a 4500 intake, I like them over the jr's
just trying to help here

Jon.
The smaller Cu inch motor will benefit from the bottle neck with the dominator flange adapter on a 4150 intake, it causes the air speed to increase thus increasing signal to the booster. Many of the other companies are doing this for smaller ci engines that need to run the big carb. The problem is when you add the Extra tall crossbar style plate to it, it makes the intake taller, HOW EVER, this is not an all bad idea either. The lower rpm engines will also benefit from the enlarged plenum area in the intake and the bottle neck. Every engine is different, but air speed is usually turned to power. The only thing I am not real wild about is the NOS plate between the space as I would want to extend the runner into the VORTEX on the spacer and put the plate on top. In ausby's case thats not an option as he already has a plate.
I think its trial and error, but I feel based on what he has told me that the intake will benefit from the adapter, on MOTOR. On NOS I dont think it will matter one way or the other.

Jim is pretty much spot on with what he is saying. I know a couple years ago when I switched to a Dominator I tried both ways. I spent a lot of money buying a intake with a 4500 flange and it wasnt worth it. On the dyno on motor I made 34 hp more peak with a 4500 carb on a 2" adaptor on a 4150 intake versus the 4500 intake with the same carb. It depends on the combo for sure but like Jim said a lot of guys are doing it that way and the velocity is where it is at. Bigger aint always better. As for the plate location I have both size plates and have ran mine under the spacer and under the carb both and havent noticed a big difference either way.

thanks. thats what i wanted to know. the big reason i'm running this carb is that i believe it's a better carb. as far as quality and all. you know theres good carbs and bad ones. it's in better shape than my other and operates flawless. i only give 250 for it. so it looks like my best option is to keep the strip dominator. put the nitrous plate on. then the adapter and then the carb. damn what a combo.i'll eventually go with a fogger system i'm sure. i'm just at the point of putting the intake on so i wanted other opinions. thanks guy's.
