Indeed, it _is_ on the wrong side. This is my favorite pic of my car; At first, I thought the right-hand-drive setup would be troublesome for the SBC swap, considering everyone seems to be putting the LS1/LT1 ect into the leftys.. But it turns out that the brake booster and steering shaft are much farther outboard on the UK spec than on the german/euro/US spec E36. This = awsome.. because I won't have to plumb another hydro system into the equation. I'll be able to keep the factory brakes and rack+pinion. All I really have to mess with is motor mounts, tranny mounts, drive shaft, cooling system, and electronics... And of course the other 376 things I haven't thought of yet.

edit: here's the US spec w/ eng/trans removed, for comparison. These guys had to do some wacky stuff to make the power brakes and steering work with the LS1 swap. I on the otherhand, am going with the L98 TPI/700R4 instead, for purely economic reasons.

This guy is at Lakenheath?!?! that's awesome. I had some friends there working on F111's when I was in the USAF. Talk about some good memories :D
