aod question

i need shifter info for my aod. it has a b&m lever kit, i'm using a non-lock up 3500 convertor. i want to use the ppp shifter. does it have to have 4 gates or just 3 ? any help would be great. btw, it has a buamann valve body also. the guys at ppp seem to be clueless. thx dave o.

The detents for the gears on an AOD are on thetransmission inside of the case. The shifter you show has the detents on it; if it's not specifically for an AOD you can have issues with the gear engagement spread. There are only 3 gear detents in an AOD (that's why people learn to hold and ratchet the shifter to grab second) so it always looks like a 3 speed trans shifter will work but it is risky. B&M makes a hammer shifter specifically for the AOD if you want to keep it safe.
